Thanks for your help Sue
We have a section on The Conisbrough and Denaby Main Local History site under 1912 Cadeby Main Colliery Disaster heading where you can find all the details and information about the disaster, a very interesting read
I have done extensive research into my family family and have many Humphries names from Shropshire to South Wales Then to Staffordshire before reaching Denaby Main in the 1880s
I have had Birth and Marriage Certificates from the registrar in Rotherham but have had trouble sourcing the Archives because of the library cuts but will certainly double my efforts
Kind regards Robert.

Have you been in touch with Rotherham Archives/Record Office to see if they have any information about the Humphries Family.

Robert, I seem to have in my memory that maybe a couple of years ago, there was a thread about this on the boards. Go into Advance Search, just below My Threads, on the left of the screen, and put in, or play around with, Cadeby Main Disaster, and see what it brings up.
I know it was definitly there once. Hope it helps.

There is a marriage for an Austin Humphries and Edith Roberts in the July Q 1933 Wakefield don't know if it's your Austin

Can I just mention I have a lot of Humphreys in my family and as you notice the differant spelling so you could try both as I have found in my family both have been used

Good Luck ;-)

Have you checked to see if anyone on here has these people in their tree? Use the 'search trees' box above.

I lost a cousin in The Cadeby Main disaster 1912.
I would like to find any living relatives of Austin Humphries or his sister Elizabeth to invite them to the dedication of a memorial to the 91 men and boys who lost their lives in a series of explosions at the Cadeby Main Colliery 9th July 1912.
The ceremony will be preceded by a parade from the site of of the colliery to the cemetery and be followed by gala attended by the local MPs. Churches,
Local history groups, Schools and primarily descendants and ex miners

I have Austin and the family on the 1911 census

William Humphries born 1879 Misspelled Hamphries on GR

Elizabeth Humphries born 1881 (Nee Tilson)

Dau Elizabeth Humphries born 1903 Swinton Rotherham

Son Austin Humphries born 1907 Denaby Yorkshire.

The father William Humphries gave his life as leader of the Mines Rescue Cadeby only a few months after this census and I am proud to honour his and his comrades sacrifice
