Start by finding accurate birth info from freebmd..............IF he was born in England/Wales

What is your connection to this man?

Last known in Oxford........when?

Nicola

Nicola Report 9 Jan 2012 17:52

free bmd only lists David Wilson born in March 1944 for some obscure reason, ive never known it to give results like that, there are 34 possible births for a David Wilson born in the quarter of A/M/J according to Find my past, yet when i did tried Free BMD there were no births registered on it other than March ( perhaps it cuts off at this point/) find it hard to believe that none were born in April or May or June as its such a common name.
Last known in Oxford in 1966 ( i am awaiting a more accurate part of Oxford in the hope i can check electoral rolls etc and hopefully find people to connect him to.
This man is connected to my brother in law, it is his father. My brother in law went into foster care at an early age but was never adopted. he has managed to keep in touch with his Mum but lost touch with his dad.
ive questioned the accuracy of this mans date of birth but he insists its the day after April fools day as apparantly it was the 'in joke' that he shouldve been born a day earlier.

:-D

Thanks for the reply Flick

Nicola, if you get an address you can do a search on Friends Reunited to see if anyone is registered there.

I see what you mean about Freebmd, though there are plenty shown on Ancestry. How starnge! Do you have any kind of location - where his son was born would be a start.

His son was born in Oxford, but ive checked all David Wilsons born in Oxford in 1944 and none of them are in the AMJ quarter.
My bro in law genuinely doesnt know whereabouts his father was born.
im wondering if he has the right year of birth< he is absolutely positive about the 2nd April though.
ive asked him to try and get any old records from the fostering and adoption services in Hampshire ( where he was moved to)
incidentally i tried David Wilson births in hampshire too for that year- again- no AMJ births.
Brummie Jan- thanks for the friends reunited idea- good call!
im glas someone else can see the 'glitch' on free bmd with those missing births- i kept thnkning it was me being stupid!

He may not have been born in England/Wales.................

Presumably, he wasn't married to his son's mother?

Advise your brother in law to add his details to the adoption contact register

Nicola

Nicola Report 10 Jan 2012 06:27

No, they were not married, at least that would give me an accurate year of birth or his fathers name to go on.
Is there a contact register for fostering? i know there is for adoption, but had no idea you could register an interest for fostering too.
Ive already asked him to contact fostering and adoption services so im sure they will sort this out for him.
and yes Flick- maybe he wasnt born here.
The problem now is that my Bro in Laws mother now has deteriorated mental health/memory problems so we are relying on what she said prior to her deterioration- which still wasnt much at all! other than the 2/4/1944 birthdate and the name David Wilson.
Ive checked the deaths up to 2006 on FMP and there are none with the right birth date so he was alive up until then.
Im going to check military births etc now.
Thankd for the response Flick

The FMD is still incomplete for 1944

RE March 1944
the births on FMD are all put together
so these are births registered JFM 1944

It is possible he was at OXFORD university ?

If so he could have been born anywhere.

Thanks Flowerpot!
At least i wasnt going daft, so basically, i cannot narrow down the births from 1944 into the month of April in order to whittle them down from there.
Thats a bit of a bummer! :-)
He couldve been at Oxford, my bro in laws Mum really isnt in a state to tell us anything. Hopefully Fostering and Adoption services will have some info for him. i know his paternal Grandmother used to visit the home and if she is mentioned in any documents it would help enormously to have her name or address.

thanks to all for the help

Hi Nicola

There are 24 entries for birth for that name alone in Apr- june, plus give the time period the war years he may not have been local, you may be best to see what records Fotsering and adoption turn up, was wondering if the BC had his info on, but elec roll where not done during these years also :o(
