I am looking for any descendants of Reginald Verdun Rutter (Parents Robert Rutter and Anne Reynolds).

Reginald (and his twin, Robert) was born in Marylebone on 29th March 1916. There were also 2 sisters, Eunice and Gladys. Robert, Eunice and Gladys died without having children.

Reginald married Margaret E Nicholls in Paddington in 1940. He emigrated to New York on the Queen Mary in June 1957 with his wife, now listed as Mary, and daughter Hilary. He had been living in Brentwood, Essex and his occupation was a barman. His final destination is listed as Canada.
I have found his gravestone on-line and the epitaph reads “Reginald Verdun Rutter, 1916-2004. Beloved husband of Mary. Carpe Diem.” He is buried in St Mark's Anglican, Niagara on the lake cemetery, Niagara, Ontario.

Dates for reference:
Reginald Rutter b 29/3/1916 Marylebone d 2004 Ontario
Margaret Rutter (Nee Nicholls) b 1/8/1920 Gloucester d 1975 Ontarion
Hilary Rutter b 1949 (edit dob)

I am yet to find any records for Hilary. I have taken her DoB from ship passenger lists.

I would be grateful for any advice anyone may have on how to trace Hilary. Thank you in advance.

I will be back on line later today.

Please delete Hilary's exact DOB.......the info you have given is all that is required for identity theft

Reginald's death cert would probably be the most helpful document.............the informant's details may prove useful to you

Reginald's obituary is here:

It gives Hilary's husband and childrens' names.

Thank you for all the replies so far.

Flick...I have done as you suggested re DoB. Thank you.

Margee. ...Margaret/Mary is on the same headstone as Reginald so I know they were buried together.I had assumed that Margaret was known as Mary but seeing your other suggestions it is possible that Margaret died in the UK and he married again to Mary.

I have looked at the 1959 record and it reads Reginald V Rutter married Rutter or Machell or Lonergan so it looks like the lady concerned may have been confused as to what her name was. Possibly as you suggest born Machell, married Lonergan then married Rutter.

Thank you for the obituary. I had no luck with finding that one.

I am going to look for a death for Margaret Rutter and ? Lonergan to see how the time lines match up. I will post anything I find which may help.

Thank you. I did try but it was in the very early hours of the morning. The obituary has been most helpful and I am hoping to contact Hilary today. I am still trying to tie up details but feel that your theory about births and marriages is correct. I very much appreciate your time and help.
