Also do'nt you need the full details to order a birth cert for someone born less than 50 years ago?

I see you have applied so maybe that is not the case now?

Kay????

Kay???? Report 27 Nov 2011 14:40

applying for the birth certificate will confirm if adoption took place and if so it went through legal channels and court approved,so legal documentation was filed or the birth index wouldnt have been altered and as far as any adoption information is concerned this is as far as your husband can go as any further adoption paper work is confidential ,only the adoptee themselves have applied access to this..

Just to recap--------You or your husband can not apply for any adoption paperwork.

Sorry, it was my husband who applied for the adoption paperwork, unfortunately there was no agency involved in the adoption of Mary as it was a private arrangement between friends, as far as we know Mary kept in contact with her birth brother too, my husband can remember him visitng when he was little but cant remember details probably because he was so young..

The reason we was confused about not getting the adoption records is due to the fact that literally everyone is deceased now... even Marys adopted parents are deceased and all of there children from previous marriages are also deceased.. we know that the birth mother has died, therefore there literally is nobody it could harm, I will be writing back to them though to ask for more reasons, I have also contacted a company who deal with adoptions to help us...

I have also tried to get in contact with my husbands step father as Mary may have told him before she committed suicide..

So the number change could also signify an adoption.....

I may apply for that certificate too as you never know!!!

Thank you for your help

Hi Sonia ,,Only your husband can make any application as a blood related sibling to seek and apply for access contact.but comes with procedures that have to be followed by law and any information from files of adoption he will not be allowed to see or read,,,,search and contact have to be made via an aproved intermediary. You can not apply or will be given any actions regards this matter.

Re your other thread.....the amened numbers by birth of Mary means that an alteration to that birth name has taken place,,,,it can mean the full name or just surname and has been lawfully aproved...hope this helps.

Board Name: England (Adoption Related)
Sonia Batey Wiltshire Nov 20, 2011
Mary Anne Stott - born 1949 - lived in Craghead Durham.

We have recently found that my mother in law had a child adopted when she was 14/15 this would have been about 1964, her name then was Mary Anne Stott, so i would imagine the child name would have also been Stott. We are now searching desperatley to find my missing brother or sister in law and would love to have contact. My mother in law passed away in 1980 so they would never have managed to have contact...

My mother in law lived in Wylam Street Craghead County Durham and she probably went to a unit for young mothers and babies before having her child adopted, so this may or may not have been within the durham area.

If this means anything to anyone, please contact me.
:-)

Board Name: England (Adoption Related)
Sonia Batey Durham Nov 22, 2011
I am looking for relatives of MARY ANNE STOTT (adopted name!)

She was born 15th September 1949 and was adopted 5 years later on the 4th March 1954 at the Juvenile Court division Lanchester Consett and Stanley in the county of Durham...

I have applied for her adoption papers but have been refused.

Mary died (suicide)in 1980 and although she was married to a Kenneth Holden he was unable to look after my husband and his sister and placed them into Foster Care, where they remained until they where 18 from the ages of 10 & 11, he never stayed in contact, leaving them with no photographs or details from there mother. Kenneth Holden is still alove and living in Chester Le street Durham with his wife Suzanne but I cant afford the ridiculous prices on 192.com, to give me the actual address and phone number.

Mary was previously married to Ralph Ellis Batey (my husband and sister in laws natural father) they lived in Blackhouse Durham for quite some time.

Information that I have been given is that Mary kept in contact with her natural brother, and we was given the name Brian Storey but after many searches I have never come up with anything...

Mary Ann herself fell pregnant at aged 14 and I believe had her first baby adopted (on another message on this board)

Her adopted Parents names where

Ellen Louisa Stott & David Stott, her address at the time of the adoption in 1954 was 15 Wylam Street, Craghead, County Durham.... David Stott was a Lamp Room attendant at Craghead colliery.

I have contacted someone via Friendsreunited that new Mary from school and she knows the lady who was her best friend... and she is going to try and get me contact with her, however this particular lady has had cancer and her tongue removed and was/is an alcoholic, so i dont know how far this will take me...

We have also been told that this was a private adoption, and that it may have been friends which is why a friend may well be able to tell me the birth name etc.

Both the adopted parents had previous marriages and Ellen Stott was previously named as Ellen Smith (great name to trace!) she also married again after David Stott died and became Ellen Barker, we think she probably did not originate from Durham however we cannot be sure.

We would both love to have either contact with the natural family or if not just enough details for us to do our family tree, any onformation even the slightest of information is very important as I am sure you imagine...

It is a complex story, and if anyone can be of anyhelp we would be eternally grateful.

Thank you.

Hi All,

We had been told previously that my mother in law may have had a baby when she was approx 14/15 but never knew this to be true.... however during my searches I also contacted all the schools local to where she grew up via friendsreunited and luckily came across some close friends from her school days... they also told me that Mary had a child aged 14 and she left school to go to a mother and baby unit (dont know where) she never returned to school and they dont remember ever seeing her again.... however luckily one of them does remember her best friend and knows where she is and is trying to contact her on my behalf, however this is also going to prove difficult as I have also been told that she has had half her tongue removed due to cancer and was/is an alcoholic so how much I will get from this I dont know but fingers crossed... I am also going to post what I have put on Lookup UK on here so that you can understand the history (there is alot.... and its complex but I have tried to simplify it as much as I can) I have researched and am a full member on here, Ancestry, a few adoption registers, and friendsreunited etc. etc... I have found all the births that are related to My husband but when it comes to his mother she was adopted at the age of 5 and then obviouly she adopted a child aged 14 herself so alot of adoptions to contend with. Mary committed suicide in 1980 and the man that she was married to at the time decided that he was unable to look after my husband then 9 and his sister then 10 and placed them into Foster care only a few months after there mother passed.... they stayed there until legally allowed to leave, mu husband joined the Army and has just left following 24 years service... The man she married was Kenneth Holden... I now have his address from a kind person from Lookup and am embarking on writing him a letter... this is hard as I also know that this was the same man that abandoned my husband with no photographs or anything whatsoever of his mother and they never saw him again, he married just 6 short months after the death of mary.... Like I said I am now trying to compile this letter as he is the only surviving member of the family that may know more details... My husbands father is also dead... pheeeewwww, this is just the tip of the iceburg, but I feel my husband needs to know further detail of his mother and if there is a living relative adopted or not, it would be fantastic to have some contact.... I have applied for Mary's adoption paperwork from the court and they have refused access, which I have no idea why as everyone involved is or would be deceased!! and I am about to wrote back to them asking why this decision has been made.... so many questions.... for all the names I have given I pretty much know there birth details, who they married and what children thay have had.... it is taking it that step further.... I will stop now and I will copy and paste my other messages that I have posted on LOOKUP UK.... May I also add, you have all been very very kind in helping me on my quest for answers... Oh one more thing, we have found two stotts born to mother stott.... Kay stott born in Durham in 1964 and Angela Stott born in 1964 Liverpool South (confirmed as adopted too) so I have applied for the borth certificates to see if it could one of them! You are all Wonderful people and are sooo kind, I cant thank you all enough xxx
