Do you know who your uncle married?

It might be easier to find him with a full name.
You could check the address in old electoral lists which will probably be at a main library in Greenwich.

for info to help

Name: James R Smith
Birth Date: abt 1899
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1967
Age at Death: 68
Registration district: Greenwich
Inferred County: Greater London
Volume: 5b
Page: 364

do you know his date and place of birth ?

to be 68 in early 1967 he could have been born in early 1899 or late 1898.

would this be his birth ?

Births Mar 1899
Smith James Robert Poplar 1c 687

the really big question is whom he married as jax said

if you know that you can possibly identify his children

you can search for them for free at freebmd

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

if you know the mother's surname

just search for

births
surname Smith
mother's surname XXX

and pick a date range, like 1915 to 1935

if her name is very common too, this may not work, but if you do know it, it is worth trying

there is one marriage in Poplar for a James R Smith between 1917 and 1930, could this be him ?

Marriages Jun 1923
Coveley Amy A L Smith Poplar 1c 691
Smith James R Coveley Poplar 1c 691

that's a fine name for the wife if so !

however ... there is no child born with initial J, just a Henry J

of course there are lots of other James R Smith marriages in that period

maybe 1918 in West Ham to Stubbs ?

there are Smith-Stubbs births in West Ham but all are girls ...

are you sure the J Smith was male ? There is a J Smith birth in Greenwich with mother Stubbs, but female

anyway the really important question is his wife's name, hopefully you will know it, if even only her first name

if you go to google maps and ask for

13 Trinity Grove, Greenwich, United Kingdom

and look on satellite view you can see that the address still exists

found the address on a town planning site, the postcode is SE10 8TE

you could always write to the present occupant and ask whether they or their neighbours know anything about the occupants in 1967

it's not always the case but I have lived in my street since I bought my house quite a few years ago and one of my neighbours my age was born here :-)
