My Grandparents adopted a baby boy whom they named David Frederick Preston Mountford. I believe that the the names Frederick Preston was his original name and that he was born in London in 1913 possibly to an unmarried mother. Can anyone throw any light on this subject. Please.

But it doesn't tie up with 'David's death, unless the informant got his yob wrong.

Adoptions didn't go through formal channels until the 1920's, so the birth is unlikely to have been re-registered. If handed over as a new born prior to registration, you'd have expected to see David Frederick P Mountford somewhere in the index.

The only way to be certain is to get the birth cert to ascertain the birth date. Years recorded on death cert are more likely to be wrong than day and month.
