i would say look for your grandma's information. I believe one of the directories (either whites or kellys) have a "name" section aswell as an address section. If you could find out where she lived you might come up with names of other people who lived at the same address, for however short a time, a lot of people lodged in other's houses, and or worked there as servents. With any luck if he was a married man she may have been down as living in the couples house.

I don't know how or where to go about finding the information - hopefully someone else on here will know - but it's possible that there was a maintenance order granted for his upkeep through the courts???

Was your father baptised?
There is just a chance that his father might be named in the register.

Yeah..thought as much. I am not expecting much luck from my great aunt...but worth a shot.

I would think your chances of finding anything would be zero

If your father wasn't told his father's name, it's unlikely that anyone else would have been told.

Unless the man attended when the birth was registered, his name will not be on the birth cert

Nope and No unfortunately not. I have just written to my Grandmother's sister in the hope that she knows, I am sure sister's wouldn't keep boyfriends from each other. She hasn't let me know anything in the past though. Hope she will this time.
All I have been told is that he was either a sailor docked who my Gran dated for a short while and my father was the produce, or that he was a nurse who worked locally but was married or just ran off when she found out she was having a baby...or he could be a sailing nurse!!...nobody I know seems to know exactly.
All I know is that he was somewhere in Southampton/Fareham around 1957/8.
I am going to order my Father's birth cert to check it doesn't say his name on there, but he says it doesn't.

Two questions.......

Did he marry your grandmother?

Do you know his name?

Hi guys,
Does anybody have any idea whatsoever how one would go about finding a Grandfather that you have never met, your Father has never met, Grandmother refused to speak about and is now dead....said Grandfather could still be alive even...
I am thinking that I would have no way in heck of finding him ever as I almost completely clueless.
But any chances anyone would have any ideas?
