this is odd ... a member of this website has all 4 of the children born in Taunton in their family tree

and a different Sarah ( also born in Tameside I think ... not the same membership number as you ) has the Stephen born in Taunton in her tree ... spelled 'Steven' as you have spelled it ( I think that is incorrect )

I think that is the right death I put above ... your parents married in Tameside in 1984 and that is where you were born after that ?

we are not trying to pry ... just to get the details that can help find information for you :-)

Hi Sarah, is this your dad's death ?

Name: Stephen James Black
Birth Date: 7 Feb 1943
Date of Registration: Mar 2000
Age at Death: 57
Registration district: Tameside
Inferred County: Greater Manchester
Register number: C51A
District and Subdistrict: 0141C
Entry number: 149

that shows you his birthdate if you did not have it

......... there is a birth registration that matches that name and birthdate

Stephen J Black in jan-feb-mar 1943 in Taunton

this sounds similar to what you have said

are you very sure your dad was adopted ?
possibly placed in care when he was a child but not adopted, so his name was not changed ?

there are three other births with the same father's and mother's surnames in Taunton around that time ... and others in other locations 10 years on either side ...

do you know where and when your parents married ? is your mum still living ?

I would guess that the Stephen J Black born in Somerset in 1943 got married in Somerset also about 20 years later
