I have the 1871 census for Mary Ann Colemans family-she was my great grandmother and I have traced some siblings of the George Coleman from Norfolk on the 1871 census but I cannot find George.I have just gone on to living cousins website and I have sent for Dennis Coleman's will-he died in 1866 - to see if George is mentioned'By 1871 George in Norfolk's father was dead and his stepmother Mary Coleman nee Stebbings was a lodger in Norfolk.His sister Julia who was on the 1861 census with George is living as a servant in Norwich and her daughter Gertrude is lodging with the Long family in Wymondham in Norfolk.Julia in the 1881 census is in Idle West Yorkshire where she has married a widow and his brother William is also in Idle West Yorkshire where he marries twice his first wife dying not long after they marry.I have followed all avenues I can think of but I still need proof that I have the correct George before doing any more research.

If you give details we can try and find him on the 1871 census.

Also, if you carefully work backwards, you will meet common ancestors if the two families are connected.
Do you have all the censuses (except 1871) for all the families?

Thank you for all your replies.I know it is a long shot but I can only say that my sister who is 71 remembers my great aunt leah say she went to visit cousins in Norfolk so I thought a living relative of the cousin- which may have been 1 of the daughters of Eliza Copeman nee Coleman- may remember her when they were children.It is the only way I am going to prove my Great grandfather George Coleman belongs to that Norfolk family as there is no trace of him on the 1871 census and he was dead before the 1881 census.

Have you looked to see if anyone has any of these relatives in their family trees?
How will a living relation prove your relationship, as they might have very little knowledge of great aunt Leah?

I am trying to trace any living relatives of Eliza Copeman nee Coleman born in 1832 in Norfolk .She had 3 daughters Anna Maria(1872) who married Frederick Daines,Alice (1869) who married William Goodrum and Elvina (1877) who married Fred Lemmon.One of Elvina's daughters Rose(1905) married a man called Moxon.Elvina Lemmon nee Copeman died in Norwich in 1961 aged about 84.I am trying to find out if this was the cousin my great aunt Leah Atkinson(1877) nee Coleman from Yorkshire, visited in Norfolk in the 1920's/30's and 40's.I need a living relative to prove my realationship to this family before I can carry on further research on my family tree.Thank you
