This is only the second time I have been on Hobbies and Crafts but I have a bead loom that I picked up on a whim. |

I rarely use the 'proper' stuff if something I have will do. |

I usually do it properly first time and then start improvising. |

I bought a bead loom from a charity shop for 50p years ago and have never used it yet! Beading is a hobby of mine though and I use fishing line for that like Island suggests. Fibreline is the one that I use and it comes in breaking weights and is in white, grey or black. I find 6lb to be pretty strong and use it the most. The cotton beading threads are ok and cheaper but they don't hold position so well as the fibreline when you pull it tight and tend to fray. I buy most of my beading supplies including beading thread and fibreline on ebay, but obviously fishing shops also sell the fibreline. To just practice with you could use ordinary cotton till you know you've got the hang of it. Good luck! |
