Nice to see you come back to this message board Gill. As others have said, we are a friendly group and many of us have gone through what you were feeling the other day.
It is good that the doctor has given you some more anti-depressants. I take mine at night, too, and they do help me to sleep.
If your doctor hasn't told you, because of the way the work it can be 2 or 3 weeks before you really feel better, so you should persist. In my own case, way back in 1985 I think I felt better just knowing I had an illness that could be treated. But it comes and goes.
As one of the few men on this thread, can I say welcome from sunny Sydney, Australia (at the moment). gentle hug, {{{{{{{hug}}}}}}} Colin.

Glad you let us know how things are going Gill, I am sure once the tablets have started to work you wil feel more able to cope, meantime remember we are here for you and anyone else needing company and support.

Hi Colin, nice to see you and sorry I haven't been in contact much, got a lot going on and not coping that well altho the counsellor is good, and I feel better going to her each week. Much better than going up on the blasted carpet with the nlp bloke who let me know more than a year ago! So much wasted time waiting for a decent counsellor, it's my life ebbing away while they faff about.

love to all, hope your finger heals ok Carole, it really hurts when you slice it like that, I did it on a piece of glass that broke off a casserole lid, I hadn't noticed and wiped my hand round inside the washing up water for cutlery and ooops, blood everywhere!

Gail, hope you can get rid of those fleas, they are such a nuisance. I think there may be dormant eggs in my house as I had my cats and dogs there and then just left it all when I moved here - the pets had been dead for a year or two by then.

Great to see you Gill. Also pleased you went to doctor. Do not push yourself and plenty of rest for a while until your meds start to kick in.

Carole, stings and Ouch! I would rather have a cut anywhere than on a hand as it is very restrictive until it heals.

Liz, no fleas in the house this year thank goodness, would hate it with new carpet. Using the bombs twice a year does the trick. Pets are a bit harder though, two of our cats do not get as bad as they sleep in the garden and under the lavender through the day, the lavender seems to help, I also put a drop or two of lavender oil on the cats and dog in the summer as well as also helps with fleas. So glad we do not have daughters problem on the south coast and that is ticks, they lost one of their dogs just before Christmas from Paralysis tick bite. Now ticks give me the creeps.

Had our first light frost last night, the days are beautiful and warm and nights cold. First big frost and we can pick the rest of the pumpkins, the pumpkins will last much longer when hit with a heavy frost, do not know why but they do.

I accidentally tipped a cup of oil on the kitchen floor last night, what a mess to clean up, it was everywhere.

Of to do some HW, do not want to but not much choice.

Still morning-just, am a bit lazy today.

Carole, yes, there is a big improvement, for which I am grateful. But those demons are always hovering on the perimeter, ready to strike when bad things happen.Am managing to face up to many awful things that happened in the past though, put them in specia 'files'.
Fleas are such a nuisance,am glad to say that I don’t have them anymore since my last cat had to be out to sleep. I always used some expensive stuff in tiny tubes that you out on the back of neck once a month, Can’t remember the name now.In very hot weather, the dear little ‘friends’still appeared everywhere. Many years ago, I was given some horrible purple stuff by the vet. This was supposed to go on the back of the neck too, but I misunderstood his instructions, so put it under cat’s chin….nearly killed her…she was very ill for a long time. Guilty is not a strong enough word to describe how I felt…
Gill, it is good to see you posting again.Hope the anti dep. Kick in soon.
Gail, my daughter used to use lavender & water and spray it on her kid’s hair, after using the ‘nasty’ first. This was for headlice, not fleas.Lol. Lucky that both are grown up now, so don’t get in contact with little kids with headlice now. Having said that, she DID get a mail from the school where daughter Sally goes to (she will be 16 next month) a couple of years ago, to say there was headlice found on a girl, who had some younger siblings ar junior school….

It was the cremation of daughter’s friend yesterday. It was a very sad occasion, but, she said the meal she cooked that evening( 14 guests) was actually a nice gathering. Most were able to express their grief, but also were laughing and telling good things about the man who died by his own hand. Typical of this daughter, she is a star, has a heart of gold, to see to the arrangements, and then cook for the immediate circle of family & close friends. About that table cloth, sorry to keep refering to it, but it was a special one, roughly 8 meters or so long, to fit her very long tables, but she said (again) she had it thrown out…..we had another giggle about this.
Did I ever mention about the hearing aid (it was a state of the art one)and glasses that my aunty wore, when she was dying? She had the glasses on in the coffin, but I took them off before the cremation. The hearing aid was another story. The ‘table cloth’ daughter is deaf in one ear, so said she would like to have aunty’s hearing aid, but became squeamish when she died, so refused it. Wonder why?Talk about walking in a dead man's shoes! These two things went with my good friend to Poland, they can be put to good use in the mountain village she and her hubby often visit, still lots of poor people there.

Hope all of you are feeling well, in mind and body, or, at least as well as possible.

Claddagh Report 15 Apr 2010 15:14

Thank goodness Gail & Sharron posted, I was beginning to think my deo wasn’t strong enough.Lol

Had app for gp this morning. Bloods not too good, he gave me the option of not taking (thyroid) meds.again and come back in 4 weeks for another test, or start taking them again.I opted for the first choice. When I told him about my eye trouble-has nothing to do with thyroid prob.- he said I needed to see an eye specialist a.s.a.p, then phoned the hospital himself. Have to be there early tomorrow morning. Hmmmm.I didn’t even ask him why he was so alarmed..may find out tomorrow.

Gill, hope you are feeling a bit better now….depression is terrible, all of us that suffer from this at one time or another, can sympathsise.

Spilling oil is such a nuisance. It takes ages to clean up……some years back, when my aunty still lived with me, I had cooked chips..stupid of me to take the electric pan back to the shed when the oil was still hot…tripped over the doorstep in shed, the whole lot went everywhere, ruined my shoes too. Only had a few splashes on myself, it could have been a disaster if children were around.

My sister is due to fly out to India from Heathrow on saturday….hope the flight won’t be cancelled. She has always wanted to do this, so says if she can’t do it now, she never will. Am pleased she is going to meet up with a group, which is organised by the travel agent. At 70, (she certainly doesn’t look it) I would be rather apprehensive if she was touring alone out there. Hats off to her for courage to follow her dream.

Take care and be happy.

I do hope the airports are open again by Saturday then Eileen for your sister's sake.

Another thing about spilt oil, even after it is wiped away it is still slippery.
Hope you get on OK with the eye specialist tomorrow, let us know wont you?

Claddagh Report 15 Apr 2010 16:50

`Not crying about spilt milk' is true, but oil.....Lucky it was in the shed, only has concrete tiles with normal soil underneath, so it soaked right through.

My elderly uncle has just told me that his daughter is stuck at an airport, can't get home. Forget where she is, but think he mentioned the Far East.

Yes, I will let you know what the eye speciialist says. The pain etc. can't be caused by my glasses, have only had them since last year, after I managed to lose my others somewhere in the house! Bet they are sitting somewhere snug with the keys and odd socks.Lol

Be safe and happy.

Well said Gail. I just boiled and sent Jean a message saying, I'm getting some thanks. Also
any of us might be getting counselling, but what about the newly diagnosed who are on the year long waiting list? They need support. Also those who feel ill but don't yet know whats up with them.
Got my back up that post!

I'm doing really well at the moment. Just yesterday at work, my partner asked what I was on, she would like some! Maybe it's spring in the air!

Going to my second dynamic counselling this morning actually. She talks so quiet sometimes it's hard to hear her questions. Might have to admit I am hard of hearing!
Eileen looks like no flights here again Saturday.

Have a good day xx

Hello all,

Everything is fine with my eyes, just a case of dry-eye, for which the doc. Gave a prescription of crème and drops. He didn’t know what caused the red light and other things…don’t know why our g.p was so alarmed yesterday, didn’t ask (unusual for me).Driving home was a bit of a trial, the drops they put in before eyes are examined, make your vision blury. Had to wait some time and drink coffee, before the effects wore off.
Another prob. is my old car.It is due it’s MOT test this month, but, the streering wheel is playing up these last few months. Today it was awful, had to hang on for dear life, whilst car tried to go in different directions to what I wanted it to….jeeeeepers!
Carole, I phoned my sister yesterday evening for a long chat. She didn’t seem unduly worried about the flight being cancelled, said the travel agent would phone her if this is the case. She is only going for a week, so, if there are no flights on saturday, I wonder what will happen, do they refund , reschedule or what? Am phoning her again this evening. All those poor folks who can’t get home….

That mindless remark about counselling made me feel angry and upset. How low can some people stoop? One GR member is in a lot of pain, feels terriblely low, so this kind of mean remark can make her and others that are depressed and down, feel even more so. I believe in Karma, so won’t wish ‘that person’ harm, but she should walk in our shoes to actually know how it feels, before commenting.

Rant over. Am off to see about some work….

Be happy and safe everyone.

Eileen

Eileen so pleased you didn't get any nasty shocks at the hospital

Please let us know if your sister gets to take off. And if she can't go if she gets another flight.

Counseling today concentrated on my relationship with mum. She asked is your dad still alive. I guess I never mentioned him much last week. He left a void in my life through his lack of any relationship with me.

I have never had counselling apart from being the subject in a counselling class which I never did finish.Because I couldn't articulate my problems I has hypnotherapy which helped immeasurably with the stress.

This week I have met my cousin wo I had not seen for forty-five years, long before I was born hem-hem.She had lived briefly with my parents before I was born and my mother was cruel to her as well.

I didn't know that before but, having talked to her I do feel closer to some sort of closure. She,in turn,is able to pass on the information to other members of the family about narcissism.

So glad to see Gill posting, give yourself time Gill, the A/D's really help, in my experience certainly initially they seemed to have increased effectiveness when counselling was added. I so remember the day I entered the psychiatrists office for the first time thinking "I've really hit bottom this time". BUT in some ways it was the best day, as I finally was able to find myself and separate that person from the beaten down wreck I had become. For the past several years I have not had formal counselling, this group has helped so much by being there and allowing myself and others to unload safely.
I don't think those who have never experienced the deep black hole which depression can be, have any real understanding of what it's like and how very sensitive one can be when down. Group hug . . .

Eileen, let me just say how sorry I am-- I assume your sister was not able to fly out yesterday. I hope the delay is not too long and she will get to India soon.
It sounds a fascinating place, but remember it is a very big country, with over a billion people- many of them extremely poor. xx Colin.
