Morning all. Just looking in, hope everyone slept ok last night. I finally went into town yesterday, spent a fortune at Primark; we've a huge one, on 3 or 4 flloors, nearly got lost lol. Hubby is upstairs rearranging daughters bedroom, its amazing what you find...odd pieces of jigsaw and felt pen lids under the bed, odd socks behind the drawers, sweets down the side of the bed...Kim & Aggie would have a field day.

my son's bedroom looked like the aftermath of a nuclear attack on times - took ages to clear up, particularly when I found girlie mags under his bed - very illuminating indeed!!! He was only a teenager then by the way!

My son who is now 23 doesn't understand dont take food or drink to your room. He doesn't even try to hide it. Coke in the bottom of the glass solidifies, bread goes mouldy, orange juice ferments, and worst was half a coconut in water for a month! It stank!! He doesn't smoke but there are lighters everywhere, (his mates). I can't get over the clothes on the floor to change the bed sheets. Get the picture xxx
Had a very strange night I'll tell you about later xx

well good morning everyone.I was an hour later picking up my son yesterday, not only left late but they closed part of the highway into Toronto so had to make a very slow detour.
my brother and his tribe arrived early afternoon, we had one of the best visits ever , even my nieces hubby was cheerful. Even the meal turned out OK, I made cabbage rolls in the crock pot, a big macaroni salad (which the kids devoured), a big green salad, and fresh " dinner rolls". My younger great-nephew was one year old on Friday, so they brought a cake, which is just as well because I hadn't thought about sweets!!!!! I fed 17 people without a crisis, until after supper when miss Sarah (age 9 with autism) discovered there was butter in the frig and emerged from the BATHROOM with a fistful of butter, apparently had taken it there to hide while eating.
From that point on I could feel my anxiety level rising, but regained control and the evening ended early on a very positive note. (except when my brother pointed out that I was the oldest person in the room!!)
have to run and drive 2 of the girls to Sunday school.
Have a good day, hugs to Carolina, we're in your corner.

Dear Caroline sorry to hear you won't be with us for a while sending you lots of love. Please take care.

Mary well done, cooking for 17 and no fit's ! I couldn't cope making tea and coffee for seven people yesterday, did two coffee's and had to ask oh to deal withit. Son sold his car on ebay and these people came to buy it.

Been to visit my parents this afternoon, went ok today, I didn't loose my rag!!

Told oh not to tell mum about last night cos mum would have a fit. He said I'm so silly being frightened to tell her!

I went to let the dog out to do what dogs do before bed. I left him out while I sorted some washing then went to take it upstairs. As I went past oh I said I'm going to bed to watch tv in bed for a bit. He came up after about half an hour.

Something woke me in the night like someone shouting hello. I thought it was our son and he would come in our room if he wanted us. Again I heard it. HELLO. I thought someone was in the house, so woke oh. He got out of bed and peeped round bedroom door to see a policeman on the stairs! Our dog was wondering round and the back door open. Next door phoned the police. I had gone to bed and fotgot the poor dog!!! Half one in the morning we were seeing cops out and locking up !! My memory !!

Caz that is normal for us. I couldn't cope with making the drinks yesterday as I said, I was so stressed with those people in our house. It will slowly get better. xx

AnnCardiff Report 17 Feb 2008 19:15

oh Carole, what a state you must hve been in to forget to lock the door!! Try not to do that one again for goodness sake.
Good job your neighbours were alert and did the right thing.

Hi Caz - it is difficult to cope when you get stressed - your mind is all over the flipping place - families eh - let em get on with it, life's too short and all that.

And as for trying to read this thread from the beginning - that's one helluva job - perhaps we should get it in book form.

Just re read your posting Carole - it wasn't your fault after all, it was OH - he should have checked the door - men!!! what are they like.

Feeding seventeen people Colleen!!! Wow - I just cooked for four of us today - chicken dinner and home made bread and butter pudding for afters - I was knackered so how you must have felt after seventeen I cannot imagine.

I intrigued by cabbage rolls and macaroni salad - never heard of those recipes before - are the cabbage rolls like Greek dolmades - cabbage leaves stuffed with rice in a tomato sauce?

Carolina - if you are looking in honeybuns, I'm thinking of you and hoping things are a little better now.

Love to all, Ann XXXX

Caz it's absoutely "normal" (whatever that is!!)
to be overwhelmed.
Blending families is difficult, you only see the exceptions on TV, not the norm. I have known several families, including myself, who have attempted this and only one couple of the lot have survived.
As many things as you may agree on, there are 4 backgrounds to cope with, your own birth family, your partners birth family, your previous relationship and your partners previous relationship. Confusion between kids about values, house rules and moral decisions, reflect the differences in the parental figures also.
Heaven knows I am no expert, one can try really hard to live above the differences, but it isn't easy. Take time for yourself - to breathe deeply and absorb some peace.
Hugs

Hi Ann GG - I call them cabbage rolls - cabbage leaves stuffed with minced meat and rice, baked in a tomato sauce. Substantial meal on their own. Macaroni salad - we are gluten-free in our house so I use rice pastas -add a few goodies - I'll pm you with the recipe so not to bore everyone.

Six hours until daughter starts 24 hour flight home. Don't think I'll sleep next two nights. I'll be in tears the next two days with anxiety. Nearly started today!
Oh just asked me if I'd make them some sandwiches as they will be hungry when they land. He is meeting them I have to work. Hope I don't make mistakes at work. I'm worrying already. xx

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 17 Feb 2008 23:22

now stop it, stop it, stop it!!!! You will be fine and if you don't feel up to making sandwiches, buy some!! She'll be fine and you know she will - you're getting yourself in a state over nothing. And you will not be making any mistakes in work, and if you do, well so be it - it's a very exciting time - now calm down and take it easy my love.

And Carolina, if you're looking in honeybuns, my thoughts are with you
