Eileen I love your story. I had an experience at my mother's burial 7 years ago which still makes me chuckle. We had about a 2 hour drive to the burial ground. I should also mention this was several weeks after the funeral, as the ground was frozen, and cremation had taken place at time of death. When we arrived at the burial ground, the funeral parlour man with the urn was not there yet. We waited and waited, and all of a sudden there's a police car with lights flashing entering the property. What in the world????
In the front seat with the policeman, was the peculiar little man from the funeral parlour, solemnly holding the urn in his lap!
Seems the funeral fellow's car had a flat tyre and he flagged down a police car to help bring my mother to her grave!!
I couldn't stop laughing, to think my mother's last ride on this earth was in a police car!! She would have definitely seen the humour in the situation!! Now if my brother would have only let me bury her ashes in a teapot, the scene would have been complete. She did love her tea. No disrespect intended.
Whenever I can, I try to see the humour in a bad situation, it helps me cope, and lightens the heaviness of a crisis. (That's on a good day).
I am on a roll this morning so will drop in later, I was thinking what a scene it would be if we were all together in one place - as Carole mentioned in her first post, kind of an AA meeting "Anti-depressant Aunties".
I think the Vitamin B has finally kicked in, I have energy to burn this morning, and all the children are gone for the day, I have 6 hours to myself!!!
Hugs to all,
Mary

Hi gang

and welcome to the new people.
Sorry Carole if I have been AWOL !!
Did my usual stint yesterday at the FHS and again it was dead .I was soaked by the time I got there and sitting about all day wet didn't cheer me up .
I am having to take son to the hospital every day to get his wound dressed so that is forcing me to drive which is not a bad thing .It does upset my stomach though but just nerves I am sure .
Mary reading your story about your mum's funeral made me smile and reminded me of .On the day I went to scatter my partners ashes his elderly brother who is autistic came with me.It was a very cold windy day so he was wearing a long black nap coat .When we got to the place I checked wind direction I scattered some then being a bit upset I handed the urn to him and turned away .I heard Ian saying good bye to his brother and that he would miss him .You guessed it when I turned round the bottom part of his coat was covered .So he landed up taking his brother home after all as I didn't have the heart to say any thing .It lightened a sad day and I knew George would see the funny side if watching from above .
Will have to go to bed early tonight as 1 hour less sleep and got to be at hospital again in the morning.
Hope every one is having a good day

love
Kathy xxx

Hi everyone, what a lot of posts since I was last on here. We’ve been in Cheltenham all morning – had to get the euros, and isn’t the exchange rate diabolical at the moment too? Got home just before the rain really came over so we were lucky.
Gill Glad you came off the thread, found the one you were talking about but are you absolutely sure that anything was meant by the poster who obviously upset you. She is usually one of the nicest well balanced people on here, I can’t believe she meant to upset you at all. I am sorry you are not feeling well today, is your weather like ours, really miserable? I am sure that reflects how we feel sometimes. Hopefully catching up on sleep will make you feel better.
Kath (Sarraby), Your daughter certainly has a lot to deal with at the moment, what a good job she has you to help. It does sound as if she is depressed and would benefit from a visit to the doctors. Is there a support group in your area for parents of children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy? Maybe if she could be more informed about it it would help her. Other than that I am not qualified to advise you or her but I hope she can find help soon, being depressed and not eating is going to drag her general health down. Welcome to the thread anyway and please come and talk to us.
Carole, the strange thing is that one of the other ‘spots’ on the scar started to bleed last night, albeit not a lot, I am wondering if it is just a different way of healing. Will have to be patient (Huh!) and wait and see.
Elaine (Mildred) Oh oh, confusing, two Elaines now. Would it help you to tell us what the threads are that are upsetting you? I think from time immemorial Mothers have been worrying about what the world is going to throw at their children when they grow up. So far we have all managed to survive. You are not alone though, I worried about my children, then my Grandchildren and now I look further ahead and wonder what sort of world my Gt grandchildren will face when they are born. Try and enjoy your children and put the worries to the back of your mind. However, as I said several people have commented how it has helped to talk out their worries on here. We listen and are non judgemental. I would have been a nervous wreck by now if I had not had this lot to talk at before and after my operation.
Carolina, sounds as if that should be checked out as soon as possible if it affects your walking.
Eileen loved the funeral story. Have you noticed that there is usually some story to smile at at or after a funeral. It does help I am sure. And what a lovely story to remember your Mum by.
How has your day been Deanna, you were here there and everywhere on here this morning. Hope the energy level is still up!
Janet, hope you fulfilled your good intentions!
Carole glad your finger is ok!!
Elaine (Twinkle) take that propanolol soon, you wont feel the effects if you leave it in the box! Hope you coped OK on your own.
Kerry hope your daughter gets her tickets then and hope you have survived the day with the kids!
Mary, another one with a lovely funeral story. What a great w ay to arrive. Why didn’t you persuade your brother re the tea pot, now that would have made an even better story!
Kathy, I have often wondered about scattering ashes on a windy day! Good job your partner’s brother didn’t notice it might have spooked him. I wonder why there are not many people visiting the FHS Where is it? Sorry can’t remember where anyone on here comes from except Gill and Mildred.

Eileen, we get our euros from M&S on our charge card - a month to pay for them as we have just paid the latest bill, no charge for the euros and the same exchange rate as the banks etc plus we get vouchers for using the card to spend in store. If we use an ATM abroad it costs money. We do also use our Credit card abroad, we have one that doesn't charge for use in Europe. Quite honestly I wish we would go over to the euro.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've been at work today so haven't been able to get on here until now.

I've spoken to a friend of mine today who my daughter gets on well with, she also has a disabled child so has an idea of what my daughter is experiencing.

This friend also thinks that my daughter is depressed, and is hoping to have a chat with her over the next few days to try and see if she'll go to the GP's, and she said she'll go with her if she doesn't want me there.

My sister is also close to her, and good support for me too, so she does have a lot of support.

I'll keep you updated on what happens

Thanks again

Kath

Kath, glad you and your daughter are getting some support.

Eileen, yes I am sure it would be an excuse to put up prices, just as decimilisation was, but a lot of that is the greedy shopkeepers who see an opportunity. I find the euro really easy to manage and it is so annoying when we have to keep buying euros when all other europeans have it as their own coinage.

elaine hope your Grandaughter is OK. My daughter used to faint at the drop of a hat when she was 10/11, often when I was brushing her long hair and she was standing up. She couldn't stand for a long time in one position well into her 20s, she even sat down for part of her first wedding service. she grew out of it though.

Dad was very quiet today. He was in bed when we got to the hospital. Didn't want to get up, have a paper, or eat. Didn't want to order meals for tomorrow. It took him ages to take the six tablets he was brought. He started to nod off to sleep after we had been there 90 mins. Mum asked him if he wanted us to go, and he said yeh! One old man opperset wet the bed. Another spat out all his tablets into his glass of water. Turning it pink it looked like a glass of mouth wash! His daughter turned up, and told him he had to take them to stay well. She took them out of the water in a lump!!!
Made me laugh. Dad seems really down and uninterested in everything. I know it's awful being away from home but mum just couldn't look after him like this. I dropped mum off at my sisters she asked mum to go there for tea. I came home and fell asleep on the sofa! Daughter cooked tea for us, oh
miserable and gone to bed.

Kath glad you are going to get your daughter some help. I'm sure she will soon feel a bit better if she gets some tablets from her doctor. How can she cope with a babywhen she is not well herself?

Love the funeral stories!! My wicked sense of humour.

Elaine where did you get all your strength from!!x

Gill relax tonight get rid of that head ache xx

Carole,
Was your Dad quiet because he felt poorly or do you think he was sulking because he doesn't want to be there? It must make your Mum worried when she leaves him like that. nice for her to have tea at your sisters.

Why did your OH go to bed early? because you were out?

seems very bright in here as I have just put the lights back on after earth hour.

but I guess he wanted a cooked meal after being at work! He usually cooks so I don't know why he didn't tonight! He's a bit of a grumpy old git at the moment!
