One Day - One Life

Slowly, gently the sun sinks in the west,
Covering the earth with a golden tinge.
Gradually, the sky darkens to its deepest hue;
Sadness envelopes a world without light.
But, something in that bottomless pit flickers,
Blinks and shows itself as a star.
Its strength grows, no longer hidden by sunlight.
It makes its way across the midnight blue.
The sky fills with many such glinting pinpoints.
Sorrow is but fleeting. Excitement fills the air.
Awe and wonder at such a beautiful sight.
The glow in the east grows to blot it out.
Where is enchantment now the light returns?
Flooding the valley surely, steadily
Until the last planet vanishes.
Overtaken by the brightness of a new day.
The wind blows easily over the fields, rivers and hills,
Pushing away the night and mist as it goes.
The sun, weak and watery, follows less assuredly.
But soon penetrates the deepest recesses.
Warming, glowing, beckoning, growing stronger,
Darting, flashing, gleaming, brightly welcoming,
Rising to its zenith, fun and laughter in its wake,
Drawing everyone to be touched by its rays.
Until it is time once more, to slip behind the horizon.
