amanda Spinster "should" mean that the woman had not been married before but nothing is straightfoerward in genealogy. I have an ancestor who on her 2nd marriage cert says Lydia Filler, late Lydia Potter , formerly Lydia Monk- this means her latest husband is Filler, her previous hubby was Potter and her maiden, birth name was Monk. Does this answer your query?
