Genes Advisor Report 13 Aug 2003 18:58

We are very sorry for all the inconvenience caused to you for the slow speed of the site recently. When the site is busy, and alot of members are using the search section of the site, this can put enormous pressure on our servers and as a result the site slows down. Our technical team are most concerned about this and they are looking into it and trying to improve the speed of the site. We are a very small team and with a large volume of emails coming in then there are some set answers that we use as we do receive similar queries from members. We are sorry if anyone is offended by this.

Jude, I have now had a reply - Peter has made the point about OZ members on my thread. But as Bill says the argument doesn't hold water when the site goes down when the least number are on there. No doubt that is because they completely shut it down for maintenance. My point is that an apology would be nice every time it happens. Couteous too. It is easy to send out a steriotyped message to evryone that e mails them. Obviously been taking tips from politicians!! Ann Glos

Bill in Oz Have you sent them a message. The one l received is probably a standard reply(as Elizabeth has just said)but atleast its something. If we're not happy then we must all complain. It must be frustrating for anyone in countries like Australia,USA etc, one would expect it to be quiet then. But they have had an awful lot of new members, loads coming on to the members brd asking T2F,and sometimes we are on their along time chatting, would this hold things up?? Thank you GC - l had a reply this morning , it reads: Thanks for reporting this problem. The site has been experiencing exceptional levels of traffic over the last few days which is why you would have received this message. Our technical team is currently investigating and we hope to have the problem rectified as soon as possible. Please bear with us while we work to resolve this. Regards Alex. I WILL SEND THE FOLLOWING: Thanks Alex at GC, this is all we wanted to know. We realise the site is busy.It must be more than you expected, obviously doing a good job, hope it continues, BUT PLEASE keep us informed. Jude
