I have something to confuse future family researchers in my family. While researching my family tree, it came to light that my Dad, who had a sister who died as a baby, wanted me named after her. My Mam decided she didn't like the name, so called me my name Michelle, which I have always hated(which very few people use) and my middle name after her dead sister. So although my Dad has waited 40 odd years to get his wish, I have granted it and changed my name. He is chuffed, my Mam isn't and so far I have had great reactions from people, much to my mother's disgust. So I may now be appearing as Morfydd and if anyone out there can find the meaning of the name I would be very grateful, I have failed to find anything. Is this taking a hobby too far do you think?!?!

Morfydd You must be welsh with a "mam"? I don't think Morfydd is translatable. My welsh dictionary of personal names says "meaning unknown". My welsh is limited and probably not as good as yours but "mor" usually relates to the sea and "ffydd", as opposed to fydd is "faith" I believe. Mor as an adverb can also mean "as". Not a lot of help I know but I do like the name. John

Morfydd Morfydd was the name of a welsh princess. Morfudd was probably a more common spelling in the 16th century with the welsh "u" giving a similar pronunciation. I have also found a reference to Morvudd who was the Athurian legendary daughter of Urien. With an english "v" (no v in welsh of course)instead of the welsh "f"; a welsh "u" and a welsh "dd" it should be pronounced the same. You're right this is going too far! John

Thanks both. William you may be right about the cornish link, because my Dad's grandparents were born in Cornwall and came down to Wales a few years before my Dad's mother was born.
