When I decided to try & find my blood parents I contacted the General Registry Office in Edinburgh.I just had to give them my details (my adopted name d.o.b; & place of birth. they then sent my original b/cert.I then made arragements to go there & view the rest of my details. Each adoptees are sealed& kept in a locked vault. I was taken to another roomto go through the file; some stays with you &you are not allowed to removeany docs but you can take notes; when finished everything is sealed & secured again.I was surprised at how easy it had all been. Of -course there may be restrictions depending on d.o.b I was born 1942. I started this search in 1988& waited 3yrs before finally putting an ad in THE SCOTTISH SUNDAY POST.(you must be very careful with the wording)It appeared on the Sunday & my mother contacted me the next day. My only regret is that I left it so long to find her.I hope this information might help someone else out there.
