I did put in Henconner Lane and pictures came up but of the railway bridge from different angles. It could be the photo I have was not actually taken in that road and someone has just used it to scribble down an address! There is a large building in the photo with big arches as if there should be windows but they are bricked in. So it's your child's dog then!! Jacky

Hi Jacky If you select Bramley from the drop down list in "enter search terms" and put in Henconner in the box underneath you should come up with a list of places - have another go and see how you go on. You know what happens when a child wants a puppy? Mum always ends up walking it! Jane

Hi Jane, Thanks for all that info. I typed in the Lane and there were no pictures similar. My dad was in the decorating trade and I wonder whether he and the others were up there on a job if the houses were built around that time. They are all dressed up to go out though. There is a lady in the background that looks as if she could work on the buses. Is there a bus depot nearby? And I love the idea of the Labrador walk in the woods. My daughter keeps on to have a puupy labrador. I'm mean and say no! Jacky

Hi Jacky Now fully awake (2 hours in the woods with a very silly labrador will wake anyone up) and went to Henconner Lane. 33 Henconner Lane is a semi detached house on the left hand side of the road almost opposite a bus depot, heading down a hill towards town. I would imagine the house to have been built in either the 30's or 40's, but that is just a guess. The houses are built on the hillside and there are probably around 20 steps up to the front doors. If you want to have a look at the area in detail have a look at this site - www(.)leodis(.)org - remove brackets as usual. This is a collection of photographs etc of Leeds, if you type in Bramley and Henconner into the search engine there are around 4 pages of photographs and descriptions of the area - they might be interested in a copy of yours! Let me know how you get on Jane

Jacky Is it number 9? - I'll have a look later and let you know. Jane Sorry! I'll look for 33 later today - it's still a bit early in the morning and I'm not quite awake!

Thanks for that. Do you know if no 33 is still there and if so is it a house, shop, pub? I just wonder what significance that address was as my Dad was born and bred in London although 3 of his elder siblings were born in Hunslet, Leeds. Jacky

JackyJ1593 Report 12 Sep 2003 17:24

I have a photo taken in the 1930s of my dad and 4 men walking down a street that is believed to be Leeds. There is an address on the back that is difficult to read but I think it is Hercorne (Hencorner?) Lane, Leeds 9. Before Leeds there is another word that looks as if it could be Barnsley /Bramley. Is Barnsley / Bramley Leeds 9 and does such a road exist? Thanks for any help Jacky
