Have re-checked my families and it appears that I have put siblings as children. Only trouble is, I've compounded this error by additional generations. How the buggery do I sort this? I've tried the delete thimgummy but it isn't quite as simple as it first appears is it? I'm not allowed to delete people with multiple connections! Anyone have an idiots guide to putting this right? Its not only one of families I've done it for either! a b c directions if anyone would be so kind please? Kathy

I wonder whether if you say pretty please if someone nice at GC will move them about for you if you send details. They have helped me before with something that needed altering. Good luck! Jacky

I am in the same quagmire. My gran has three husbands on the tree. God knows how I did it, but it must have been me. I also can't delete any of them. If you ever find out how to do it, I would appreciate it if you could tell me. With sympathy Terry Clary

Idid this myself not long ago and have since seen many messages from others who have unfortunately messed up their trees. The helpful people at GC gave me some advice and I got it sorted. As it seems such a common problem could GC put extra strong warnings/advice on their info page for beginners? Janet

Dear Kathleen, I did what the GC man said on your message reply, and after been told first that I had replied to the wrong person, I finally got the following message. "Apologies for the confusion. You will get a quicker response if you contact our support team directly through the Help area of the website with any queries that you have in future rather than post on the Members' Message Baords. You can add more than one partner to a relation and you can attach different children to those specific partners. If you have already added the children and it is showing as the wrong father or mother on your tree, you will need to remove the children first so you can re-add them later with the correct parent From the Your Names area, select the 'View Your Names' button and from there you can pick which relation you wish to add the partners to, click on the Immediate Family Button for that relation and you will then be taken to their page where you will see the button to 'Add Another Partner' . Or click on their name from the Your Tree page which will take you straight to their Immediate Family page When you have added the other partner/s you can then add the children choosing the correct partner to show as the child's mother/father. I hope this helps, please let me know if you require any further help. Regards NickyD" If you can figure out how this message enables me to remove two of the three husbands I have given my Gran, then let me know. I must be a bit thick or something. Is somebody there winding me up do you think?

Hi Terence. I'm with you, wonderful advice but it doesn't work. Requests to GC to do it for me, AT THEIR SUGGESTION, produced another set of instructions which don't work. Am scrapping my tree and starting again

Thanks Keith. Perhaps I am not as thick as I thought I was. Sounds a sensible thing to scrap your tree and start again, but "Thinks" How do I do that? Regards Terry Clary

Hello Kathleen, I took Max's advice and completely deleted my tree from Load Gedcom (taking care to handwrite all the details before I deleted). I then started again from scratch, noting that I had on my original effort made lots of mistakes, and now I have a sensible tree. It took a while to do it all again but was worth the effort. Regards Terry

Are you sure you HAVE deleted? When you click on "DELETE" GC takes you back to your home page. Now you need to click "BACK" which takes you to the "CONFIRM DELETE" page. Now click on "YES" and the deletion will take place, providing the individual to be deleted has no multiple links. eg no children attached. Good luck Jim

You're all so very thoughtful and I'm so pleased there are others plonkers like me. I did reply to the GC administrater but haven't heard anything. Perhaps because I asked them where they wanted me to start with my errors. Tell you what, this thing is giving me a bloody headache. Have had a reasonable break from the tree and thought I would come back refreshed. It's even more scarier today. Perhaps I'll make a decision for October. I need my dinner now! Kathy

Kathy, I am sure you are not a plonker. I think the admin people at GC fall more into this category. I really think your best bet is to delete your tree with "Load Gedcom" at the bottom of "Features" on the right of your screen, and start again, taking your time, and checking that everything you put in makes sense before you go to the next bit. I understand that this will seem daunting, particularly with the size of your tree, but you don't have to do it all at once, just a bit when you feel like it. Good luck, and don't knock yourself. You sound very intelligent to me. Terry
