Hi Rachel, The simplest advice for any beginner is to start with what you know. You seem to know enough about your grandmother to be able to search for her in the birth index. You can do this either at a main library, at the Family Records Centre in London or online (http://www(.)1837online(.)com). A birth certificate will give you her parents names including her mother's maiden name. From there, it's a case of working back and trying to find a marriage certificate for her parents. Her mother's maiden name could be important because given the year your grandmother was born, they would probably would have both been single at the time of the 1901 census - hence you would have two names to look up. That should get you on your way. Andy.

Could someone tell a beginner the quickest, easiest way to search for my grandmother's family? She was born in M'boro but her parents came to L'pool. All I know is the family name, LUVAINE, and that her father died when she was six ~1926. He is buried in L'pool.
