Hi Susan, Have you found them on the 1901 census? At least then you'd know if they were single in 1901. I've found them on the 1891 census if you're interested. Emma.

Susan I have the same problem as my Gt Grandad married a widow or I think they married and am still looking for there marraige it is a headache. Don't give up history won't be going anywhere. What i have done is go on to someone else then I'll come back to them,that's what I do when I can't find some thing in the house!!! Sad Ann,Darlington

Thanks for the suggestions I have searched from 1900-1913 still no luck they just didn't want anyone to know, I'll just keep plodding on proberbly find in 2012, lol Sue

It may be an idea to look further on than when they 'should' have got married. On my grandmother's birth certificate (born 1904), and those of eight of her siblings, it has her mother's name as Amelia Prior, when her name was Agnes Amelia Baggott! She and my great grandfather (Mr Prior) had 9 children before they married just before the tenth was born in 1924 and a year before my grandmother got married! The reason, according to my grandmother (which I have not veified yet) is that he had a previous wife in an asylum, and it wasn't possible to divorce a spouse who was incarcerated.

Don't forget females could marry at 12 years old and males at 14 until the law was changed in 1929.

No they weren't a service family found that on their sons birth cert . John w Bromley 1883 Poss Grimsby died 1916 Alice M Crowson 1884 Louth Lincs died 1918 When their son was born they were living at 251, Garden Cottages Cudworth Yorkshire John died France Alice died at 28, Maiden Row Louth ( now a bus station) On the birth cert John's occupation is "Colliery Fireman" Sue

Were they perhaps a Services family and got married overseas?

Has any one out there got any suggestions on how to trace a marriage when the couple married don;t seem to want to be found. I have searched the 1837 online untill my eyes are stinging and my wallet is weeping, other people have searched too to no avail on their sons birth cert it has his mother as " Formally known as" she was informed by the M O D of his death, none of this would have been unless they were married they had to have married before 1913, So where can they be i have written to the head offices of the Salvation Army,Baptist and Methodist churches. Whats left Sue
