I do think it is a pity that some GC members add names but no clues as to where born or date of birth - approximate date of birth or a possible place of birth would at least help a bit. A name on its own is really not much use at all.

Janice This thread has come up a couple of times over the last couple of weeks. The reason some trees do not show year and places of birth is because in a lot of cases they have been downloaded by gedcom. In the original family tree package there is allowance for baptism dates as are needed pre 1837 but on GC there is no such provision and this site leaves it blank. George

I posted the following reply I had from GC on the 17th Oct about the Gedcom problem. Margaret I have spoken with our development team and whilst it is correct that the introduction of the incorporation of baptism details into Gedcon files uploaded to GenesConnected was ready to be tested a few months ago, the implemntation of this new facility has now been delayed. I appreciate the frustration that this is causing you but as you will be aware, we are a very small team and there are just so many other enhancements to the site and the loading of family trees that have had to take priority. I'm afraid that, at this stage, I can not give you a firm date of when we will be introducing this enhancement but rest assured that it will not be forgotten and will be implemented as and when time allows.
