If your Goodwin clan were before mid-1800, then few ordinary people could read or write, unless they were self-taught at home, or wealthy enough to pay a teacher. It wasn't until the 1870 Education Act that elementary education became within reach of all British children. Kathy

Hello again, My problem is that no-one in Saffron walden or any other part of ESSEX will reply to my pleas for information about the GOODWIN family of SAffron Walden....I just wondered about their education!! G.Goodwin

Considering how politely you ask I am not surprised Bob
