Son of a disgruntled elf from Lapland..they taste devine melt in the mouth..even if I blow my own trumpet I do make nice pastry..none of that frozen stuff. anyhow I have just put the contents of the drink cupboard back and I found this small bottle of ...god knows what.I think I remember that it came from Russia given to us by a friend.Well I took the top of to have a smell ..as you do and it smells of aniseed and is yellow in colour.can't read what it is but can read that is is 90%.Had a sip and it nearly blew me socks off................

Son of a disgruntled Elf from Lapland ..24 pies now done and my kithcen smells of warm brandy,apples,rasins, sultanas, everything that you would find in mince pies, but the proof is in the eating.... don't think they would miss one do you? (mind you I did manage to sneek another half a dozen in the oven...cos I couldn't just eat only one.I'm being a good girl and taking them into work tomorrow.

Well son of a gun you disgruntled elf from lapland,Have put neet brandy in and tried not to go over the top. they are now in the oven and I think that I may now have a wee dram.Now don't they say that all good cooks have a taste so here goes and the only thing I drive is him up the wall,or a hard bargain. Cheers and hope that you won't be disgruntled for too long only christmas is coming.

Linda. . . . Don't suppose you have any Rum essence in your cupboard ? I wouldn't put so much Whiskey as Rum in. Good luck. and don't drive ....lol :)))

Thanks Keith you saved the day got 2 unopened bottles of brandy should be quite potent as I have had them for at lease 15-20 years so here goes and I raise my glass ...cheers

Hi Linda. Don't think whisky would be much good. Try Brandy, (and drink the whisky while the pies are baking) Good slurping! Keith

Heres hoping that there are some x cookery experts out there as if like me gc is now your no1 passtime. I am making a batch of mince pies and ususally put rum in mince, but shock horror no rum so please tell me will whisky do the job? lynn
