Ive done a variety of jobs from cashier to nursing in an old folks home. Im now at home full time looking after the last 2 children still at home, the others have now grown up and flown the nest. MY youngest suffers from ADHD and Mid Range Autisum. So if any one wants advice on tantrums, climbing the walls, and spinning like a dervish, (and thats just me ) give me a call. I'm a nurse, recently changed jobs, now working in an Outpatient Department, previously worked for a District Nursing Evening and Night Service covering 400 square miles, so if you need to know how to get around and find house names/numbers in the dark-I'm the one to call!! Sue

I'm retired now. Have been in past lives, an insurance agent, travel agent, driving instructer, raised 73 children, natural, adopted, and foster, worked as a mutuels clerk at a racetrack, Xray dept., sold Avon, Tupperware, helped to train standard bred race horses. Cooked, cleaned, ironed, washed, fixed broken hearts in teenagers, made many science projects for school(know how to make paper, a volcano, how trees grow, and how to construct a house from things laying around.) I now help my husband run his small business, do the accounts, take care of our livestock, poultry and dogs. Decorate the house, sew, knit, quilt, bake. Still have time to play with my grandchildren. I'm 56 years old and apparently I am way past being able to work as I can't find a part time job serving coffee!!!!! Will gladly give advice on any of the above items. Also child birth, child rearing, animal husbandry, home decorating, marriage counselling, how to unclog a toilet or sink, what to do when your 2 year old swallows a coin. oh - Robert, What a fab time for you to post a message. I'm refitting my bathroom (doing all the tiling myself) but I want a towel radiator and electric shower installed. can I get a plumber to do both or do I need a gas central heating man, a plumber and an electrician? incidentally I'm a journalist/picture editor for a national newspaper so I can sometimes help with tracking old cuttings (I'm based in scotland now so I mainly have access to scottish stories and the computerised archives go back to mar 1989)

Currently work part-time in a library. Before kids I worked in Business Travel for 16 years. Have also worked part-time in an Estate Agents. Working in a library is my dream job - what I wanted to do when I was at school. Can't believe I am lucky enough to have a job I look forward to after 16 years of dread! Obviously my OTHER hobby is reading!! Maz. XX

Hello I'm new to this site and just reading all your stories on what you all do... i'm training to become a midwife so anyone expecting babies and are worried about anything don't hesitate to ask me!

My husband is self-employed and I look after the office/paperwork side of things for him, including the accounts, Income Tax affairs and the dreaded VAT! I'm self-employed on my own account, with a wide variety of money-making activities! I'm a local correspondent with our local daily newspaper; I've also published 8 booklets so far, containing the memories of the older residents of my village going back as far as 1904, including some old photographs from my collection; and I make pencil portraits of people's pets from photographs, on commission! I've been carrying out research on the history of my village for 7 years, with the intention of publishing a hardback illustrated book, when I've got enough stuff together, and when I can afford it! Publishing my booklets of the memories I've recorded are intended to help towards the cost. I've also been borrowing old photographs and postcards and copying them for posterity, and now have over 300, dating back to the late 1800's. It's amazing what people have in their attics! Hobbies? I'm a handbell ringer, for a start! There are about 12 of us in our village handbell ringing group, and we actually got a £5000 Lottery Award to help us buy a new set of bells two years ago - and we're very proud of them! I also compile Quiz Sheets to raise money for various charities in the village. My friend and I usually do about 3 a year, and must have raised several thousand pounds in the past 4 years since we've been doing them. I was a Parish Councillor until the last election when I decided I wanted 4 years off to concentrate on my local history research, but I did retain the 'job' of Community Safety Officer, liaising between the Parish Council, the Police and the village Neighbourhood Watch Groups under a 'Partnership Promoting Safety' scheme. If I remember anything else I do, apart from look after the house, do the cooking, cleaning, bill paying, sewing, washing, ironing, nursing and family history research, I'll get back to you! Janet

I am an accountant, but don't hold that against me. I'm lucky in that I work for a cinema chain and sometimes get to go to premieres. But my strengths lie in my hobbies, studying mediaeval history, monastic buildings, egyptology. rock and blues music, genealogy and literature. Gary

I run 5 Youth Theatre groups and do some supply teaching. I "specialise" in children and adolescents with challenging behaviour. I've been doing Family History for 5 years and going to Fam His classes for about 3. Many other members of the workshop classes are also teachers, do we have a natural affinity for it? I've found several teachers in the family, the earliest in the 1851 census - a genetic predisposition perhaps? Both my parents and several aunts, uncles and cousins are/were teachers. History was one of my worst subjects at school but in the last 5 years my knowledge of English and Welsh history has had to improve considerably. Gwynne

Pam,,!! You're superwoman,,,not 'just' a housewife, Thinking about it I do all of those things too,,,plus I am the director of our own company and maintain the accounts etc and also I am a surgical administrator at the local hospital. I trained as a nurse but left when I had my girls,,then went back to nursing by being a practice nurse at gp's surgeries..now I work on a surgical ward. What about hobbies,,,apart from genealogy,,,what does everyone else do if they have free time?
