Hello! Children I am relaxing by my own fireside with a cup of tea. what an exciting day it has been. My throat is sore from cheering the reindeers on as they ran in the race. I must admit that I shouted loudest for Rudolph, for I have known him since he was a baby reindeer , so he is a favourite of mine. The race started at two o'clock. The Elves have lunch at one o'clock. I have never seen plates emptied so fast they were so eager to get outside to watch the race. After I had finished clearing and wiping the tables, I went and joined the Elves who were stood around the starting point. The route had been marked out with coloured flags by the Elves the night before. The starting point was outside the Toy Factory and went for two miles around a frozen lake, over hilly slopes, then on through the forest, finally coming back to the starting point ouside the Toy Factory. All eight Reindeers were lined up and ready for off! Santa went along the line wishing each reindeer good luck! Then Mr Noel who had been waiting for the nod from Santa took a silver whistle from out of his pocket, one sharp toot! and they were off! Rudolph was off like a shot, with the rest close behind. as they neared the lake Dancer put on a spurt and was neck and neck with Rudolph. The Elves started cheering madly. Secretly they wanted Dancer to win because he never nipped them when his coat was being brushed. Unlike Rudolph. It looked like Dancer was going to win! then as he went around the lake he slipped on some ice. Down he went with all four legs waving in the air and a very surprised look on his face.He scrambled to his feet again but by then Rudolph was well in the lead. Rudolph was so sure he was going to win that as he came out of the forest and headed for the winners post, he started to sing "I am a champion" He was so busy showing off he didn't see Prancer come up alongside of him, when he did spot him , he turned his head too sharply lost his balance and went spinning in a circle and crashed into a tree. Prancer saw his chance and streaked home past the winning post. So this years winner was Prancer! Santa presented him with the winners cup , and he had his photograph taken., which later will be framed and hung on the wall of santa's office. Rudolph wasn't hurt too badly, but he has gone very quiet. Bye children love from santa's cleaning lady. xxxxxxxxxxx
