.....have you thought about your New Years Resolutions yet? There will be many vowing to stop smoking, drinking etc but how about something special this time? I hope to make a mark of some kind on 2004. It may be to do with environmental preservation or leading some sort of campaign to clean up our streets. (We can't walk anywhere in our area without constantly looking out for dogshi......well you know what I mean) 2004 is the year Damerell Strikes at the Establishment. Come on let us see what you are intending to do!!!

Hi Theresa, I'm a weight watchers member. It's really easy but you have to give yourself about a month to get into the habit of it. Also, don't worry about your first meeting as EVERYONE there (including the person who weighs you) is or has been in the same boat as you and absolutely NO ONE judges anyone else. O and if you see any skinny people there it's usually because they've lost all their weight and are at goal and maintaining. Personally I've lost 6 stone. It was 7 but then I gave up smoking but I'll drop that stone again no problem so believe me when I say I know what I'm talking about here. Contact me if there is anything you want to know Angie P.S. you don't have to give up booze on weight watchers

I asked my 4 year old the question. Not quite getting it, he said 'I wish that nobody would ever get cross with me , ever again'...and then pushed his brother into the swimming pool. We'll have to work on cause and effect. John in Aus.

Resolutions (will I keep them?) 1. When on Genesconnected and I notice that the dust is building up - get up and dust rather than say "I'll do it tomorrow". 2. Try and find a way to make my fortune without winning the Lottery. 3. Visit the places that my ancestors came from - if they are still there. Nes

Well now, I don't smoke, drink very little, I'm not overweight, rarely swear, still try to obey the Guide law, always vote, don't jay walk, don't gamble, (well, only the 6.49), etc etc. So my New Years Resolution is to stop being so boringly pious, and take up some dreadfully revolting disgusting habit so I'll have something to give up next year!!!!! Happy Boxing Day everyone, Di.

Just kidding!! My real resolutions are to keep a journal every day, to walk for at least a half hour every day, to smile at everyone I meet when I'm out, and refuse to allow negativity into my life, in any shape or form. Also drink at least 8 glasses of water every day.

For all those going to try Weight Watchers..have you thought about doing Atkins, its alot easier, ive lost 2 stone in 3 months and plan to lose more in the coming months, the weight just falls off...trust me!

Angela

Angela Report 27 Dec 2003 20:55

I have to say I've not heard anything good about the Atkins diet. I've heard about people passing out and about it damaging peoples liver. I can't see how it's properly balanced and so how can it be healthy. Weight watchers lets you have a little of everything. Also 2 stone in 3 months averages out at just over 2 pounds per week, which is exactly what I lost during weight watchers.

Unknown Report 27 Dec 2003 21:33

I have to agree about the Atkin's diet, having seen several programs on TV about the dangers. The body needs a truly balanced diet to function properly, and stimulate the immune system to fight off disease. So many diets don't do this, and the diets are so unimaginative that you end up returning to the old way of eating and gain more weight than ever. Also noone seems to mention exercise, another must to maintain the correct weight, as well as helping to maintain bone density and therefore ward off osteoporosis, and also to aid in the systems in the body that fight off depression and anxiety. I've never been overweight, but at 5'5 1/2" age 54, and 134 lbs suddenly discovered I had high cholesterol, (very high,) & high blood sugar. Had high BP since age 35, but mostly "white coat syndrome". Anyway I had to make drastic changes to my diet, and started walking every day and lost 24 lbs in 2 months. Too much, looked haggard so regained 10 and with walking and balanced but a little less food, managed tp maintain for about 15 years. Lost my 2 best friends who took me for walkies in the past 2 years, Biz and Boz, Schnauzers, and have gained back 4 lbs too much from cheating on eating and walking. So, 2 more New years resolutions!! I hear that Weight Watchers is good system of eating so good luck to all of you that are about to embark on it, but add a good daily walk in there somewhere. As for Atkin's read up on it a bit, and make a well informed choice.
