Hi Peter, The key thing is to get back to 1901 then you can look up relatives on the 1901 and 1881 censuses for free. You can find them the Resource Centre under Useful Links. Crista

Hi Peter Get as much info from living older relatives as possible. Record it on paper or tape and get it on to pc too. There are numerous site s you can get info from. Also you can come on the members board and ask. if you do, refresh the page after posting message and then refresh again using refresh or F5 button to see new messages as they are posted. look forward to seeing you there. michele

Hello Peter and welcome to the world of genealogy. Suggest you get a simple book on genealogy, there are many available at Smiths, then you'll be able to approach these boards with some knowledge of what you want to find out. Best of luck. Put any specific questions on here and you'll always find someone to help. Keith

Hello Peter. Further to my last message. Practical Family History February edition is ideal for you, inside cover is titled "Thinking of tracing your Family Tree." good stuff, and there are some very relevant articles within. Enjoy. Keith

Hi Peter and Paula, Welcome to the wonderful world of genealogy. When you've followed all the advice to date, and have gathered together a few family facts, go to the TIPS board and click on "Good Websites, Add yours here", and start your own list of websites that will be useful to you in your research. You'll find a lot of very willing people on this site especially, to help with lookups and advice. Good luck to you both. Di.

Hi Peter - was it you I once saw play against Jimmy Greaves and Danny Blanchflower? So far no one has suggested that the first step should be to visit your local, or nearest, Genealogical Society - it'll be in the phone book. Also some libraries have a section devoted to the subject. I started my research long before the internet came along and found that the help I got from the Society was just fantastic - they have books galore on every aspect of our hobby; you want to find a will? It tells you how in a book. You want to know what a journeyman was? It tells you in a book. Of course now you just type things into Google and get an instant reply (maybe 100,000 links to choose from!!) But be warned - this hobby will take hold of you and won't want to let go! Best wishes Peter
