I am try to trace any info on my grandfather Charles Lee Audette. Born on 6th May 1887 in Montreal,Canada. He left home when he was 16 and his family owned a farm. He had 2 brothers and 2 sisters. One sister was called Ruth and they married a lawyer and a doctor.Younger brother was called Paul and worked at Polywink(clothing company).La Chute or La Chen was mentioned (whatever that means). Charles crossed the boarder at Niagara Falls and worked at Atkinson Saw Works,America in the foundry.Later American mercantile marine shipping horses overseas.Last trip was to UK where he joined the forces.Royal Horse Artillery.Suffered shellshock and was sent to servicemans hosp in Manchesterwhere he had intensive electric shock treatment. He went on to serve with his unit in Ireland then Aldershot where he finished his service career. Worked as a farrier in London and married 1st wife Violet King. Violet died after childbirth and he married my grandmother Louisa Nutley nee Williams.Went on to have a very large family. I know this goes on a bit but am finding it hard to get info on his family in Canada. He always told his children to remember that their name was spelt Audette and that it was very important. Does anyone know why? Any info would be great, thanks from Sue in Australia.

If you put Canada 411 into the Search Bar, you can check through a listing of all the Audettes and Audets in Canada. Most of them still seem to be in Montreal, but there are others across the country. It's a long list but maybe there are family given names you could check for. Maybe www.archives.ca could give you some leads, and there are some good Canadian sites listed on the Tips board, under the title Canadian BMD. Good luck, Di.
