I retired 18 months ago and not for one single nano second do I miss work, a couple of co-workers yes but the rest, I soooo don't miss it. How about you guys out there, anything you miss? I don't miss, morning meetings, before the office opened, Yes make my work day longer!! I don't miss the dumb games they would make us play. Like what colour are you!! Who cares, same with what kind of fruit are you, again, who cares! Some kind of 'ologist' must have come up with those games. I sooo don't miss, those in words. Management always came back from meetings with new ones. Team Building, play dumb games and socialize with people you don't really care for. Networking, same as team building, only more talking. Interfacing, have no clue, obviously I don't. Not a Team player, that was probably me!! Self appraisals, who came up with that idea, I always rated myself 100% and I definatly needed a raise. Basically it saves management from doing their jobs. Nasty customers, who yell, bang on the desk and generally act like A. holes if they can't get their own way. People who think its funny to walk in at 1 minute to closing and want to do a half hour transaction. People who phone the office and ask if your open. No I stay here all night and answer the phone!!! Voice mail and those phone messages that tell you 'Hi, I am out of the office', what, they think we are simple, if you don't answer the phone we can figure out for ourselves you are out of the office. One of my biggest hates, those pictures, artwork, NOT, that all managers hang on their office walls, with inspirational sayings, like IMAGINE, SOAR, etc. I was so afraid I was going to get one when I retired, thank goodness I got something else. Like to hear your work hates!!!

I don't miss my previous jobs - 13 years in Business Travel - and 3 years part time in an Estate Agency. However, I am now doing my dream job - working in a library - and miss it when I don't go!! For the first time I look forward to work, a nice calm environment, nice people and BOOKS!!! Even the odd stroppy customer doesn't bother me now! Nowhere near the same money, but what a difference! Hope all of you can find your dream jobs soon! Maz. XX

I for one dont miss work and I sure don't know how I ever found time to do it.My manager hadn't a clue how to do my job..........I often wondered if he knew how to do his own.

Erm! excuse me, .... but what is work?....... Does it mean there are more genealogy sites I need to look at? Or do I have to push the mouse attached to my computer more? pls explain! Kim

Work is what you do to earn money to spend on doing other things. Couldn't possibly survive spending all that I do without working. Necessary evil I suppose or perhaps like banging your head against a wall - it's lovely when you stop!

CHRIS. You are so right. I am so happy I will never have to go to work again if I don't want. I may do some volunteer work but I promised myself when I left my last job I would never put myself in the same position again. I detest being treated like an idiot. I worked for a very large company for 12 years before I took early retirement.

Work? A distant memory now, thank goodness. No more getting up at 6.30 every morning to go to work and coming home at night to cook and clean and do laundry ad infinitum. No more office politics, no more silly games or competitions. Being "employee of the month" and having one's picture on the wall was a "reward"??? No more being shut in an office with no windows, and not knowing if it was sunny or raining outside. In fact in winter you went in in the dark and came out in the dark, and began to feel like some kind of burrowing animal!! And then there's having to belong to a union and seeing all the diehard unionists standing around complaining, instead of getting on with the job, like the majority of us. Hated that "us and them" attitude. Oh, to go back to the good old days before "work". When we crawled out from under a bear or mammoth skin, kicked the dirt to one side, put on a deerskin shift and went out to gather nuts and berries! Di.

Evelyn I love not having to get up on dark mornings, not having to go to work the day after a holiday or public holiday, not having to ask for leave when I want to book a holiday. I don't miss having all my letters checked and having my grammar corrected to MOD speak when I passed A Level English Grammar as an adult at evening class, I don't miss all the bitchiness that goes on in big offices, from males and females. I don't miss having an annual assessment. I do miss my salary which was a whole lot more than my pension, I miss some of the friends I made and I miss my actual job. (Which as a Training Liaison Officer was to put people on courses to achieve the 'buzz' words you so hated - teamwork, networking, managing people etc. ) On balance I am happier retired than I was when working. ann Glos

Hubby & I both love not going to work anymore, only trouble is we still don't seem to have any spare time!! Val

I love my job - yes it can be stressful and frustrating at times, but I really enjoy the challenges. I feel so lucky to have found a great company to work for. I've worked for some lousy ones in the past. My problem is finding decent childcare. Just now I face having to drastically cut my hours as I can't find suitable after school care for my son. I thought it would get easier once they got to school !! Ann

I enjoy my job too, which as I work as a nurse in a prison may sound a little strange. But every now and then it can actually be quite rewarding. Patsy

i also love my job,but hate getting up at 5.45 and leaving the house at 6.15.as i work with the elderly as a home carer its very rewarding.but the best part of all is getting home at 10.30 am.!!!!lol i then have the rest of the day to sit at my puter and try to find my elusive rellies susie
