The 12th night of christmas is the 6th January. That wassailing sounds like something the Maoris would do a haka for.... :))) |

I thought that too Jay. I used to leave my decorations up until the 6th, or twelfth night, as I thought, or I would get bad luck all year. Gave up doing that a few years ago. I'm not so superstitious any more...touch wood!! But, which day is the right one and why? Di. |

Is there an apple-wassailing carol. Carols were not just for Christmas, and many were wassails. i will look in an old music book I have I have found it - the old Oxford Book of Carols has an apple wassail in. The words are nearly the same as the poem below, and it looks like a jolly tune |

Yes Folks, the 16th of January is not only the old twelfth night of Christmas. It is also 'Apple-wassailing Day' in Much Marcle near Ledbury. Hereford. I thought you all ought to know that. |
