I put a message on this board a couple of weeks ago to let everyone know that I was in contact with my 5th cousin in America. We email each other virtually every day, swapping bits of information and having a general chat. I thought this was fantastic and was more than pleased with my lot. But I've just come off the phone to my maternal Grandads sister and her daughter. They had telephoned my Grandad the other night but he gets somewhat confused these days but he did jot down the number and gave it to me saying it was a different Aunt. So I thought nothing ventured - I'll give her a ring. I was so surprised to find out who it really was as Grandad lost touch with his sister about 25 or more years ago and had assumed she had died. Grandad is 86 and his sister is 84. We're hoping to get together in the near future to catch up. And I'm going to take my notepad so I can jot down every bit of information I can glean as this side of the family has been impossible to trace! Jeanette

I am so pleased for you. I think you ought to invest in a recording machine, especially if they are anything like my family. When they get together the "old times flow" and you miss half of what and who, they are talking about. Hope the get together happens soon. Nesta

Congrats on your find! If you have access, take along a video camera and set it up in the room, or at the very least, a voice recorder. You'll have memories to last a life time and you won't miss a thing that was said! Both formats can be put onto your computer and burned to disk to share with others in your family, too. Again, congrats! Judy

Nesta and Judy Brilliant idea! My Mum has got a video camera. It would be something I could show to future generations. Bill I'll be sure to let you know too. Infact I've just been thinking about you. I was tidying through some papers and came across a list of things you needed to know when I went to the library. When I spoke to Grandad earlier he had a little lump in his throat. And his sister was telling me that she had had a tear in her eye when she heard his voice. I think I'd better take a big box of tissues to this reunion! I'm so pleased for them both.

Hi Jeanette Thanks for your thoughts. Need some good vibes at the moment, still grieving over the loss of our cat. Regards Bill
