Im new to all this and just started to look in to my family history, are threds leads to information? any search tips would be most welcome, trying to find out my nans husbands first name & dob ect as i have no family to ask, he died when i was two and have no info at all except his surname. Thank you

Hi Rosemary! If I understood your question correctly you want to know what a thread is. An example of a thread, here at Genes Connected, is what you started here....by asking a question and people coming back and replying. Hi Rosemary This keeps this thread moving up. If you only have the name, then you need to get a rough idea of age at death, or birth. You can then use GRO [General Records Office] indexes, which will be [hopefully] available at your local reference library. These are held in date order starting in 1837, in separate microfiche, births, deaths and marriages. From these, once you are satisfied you have the right person, you can get certificate copies either from the original registrar [cheapest] or from the National Records Archive. Good hunting Badger
