There was a Thomas Maddock (born 1878) living with a Nellie Maddock (born 1881) in South Manchester in the 1901 census. He was a metal electric plater. There are dozens of Thomas Maddocks recorded in the 1901 census but only a few Nellies (if this was not a nick name) and only this one living with a Thomas. John
