i often listen to "the late show" on local radio in the midlands (via radio leicester) some years ago the presenter was John Tainton and one valentine nite the phone in was lovely but one sad story really stuck in my mind a lady phoned in saying that her husband always put a red rose on her pillow on valentine night and they had been married for many years but this was the first year she hadn't had a rose put on her pillow as he had recently died it was so sad and i don't think there was a dry eye anywhere listening i can't remember what john said but i just remember he dealt with it lovely and with compassion i think about that lady every february lou

IN 1999 I got 6 cards, still dont know who four of them are from!!!!!! ( two were email cards though) LAst year I got ONE from my hubby, then my fiancee. I've never got flowers or a romantic meal or choccies tho ( i'm diabetic so the choccies are out) This will be our first year as hubby and wife though, maybe i'll get a tea cosey or something, he's not very roamntic.

Wendy, Your luck's in!! Am told that Valentine's cards will be on Friends Reunited within the next week or so!!!! Register yourself there, tell us who you are, and maybe we could set you up for the record as the person to receive the most F R Valentine's cards - no need to ambush the postie!!!

Hi Norah, to put you out of your misery - it's a special pad that comes in a bag. As soon as you open the bag the pad somehow gets warm and it's lovely to hold when you have frozzled hands. Don't ask me how it works though please. By the way I found out what the table was that came with the Court Cupboard - the cupboard was very short so you put it on a table. Why didn't they just make the cupboard taller I ask myself!!

Trish, This old biddy''s trying to think what a hikers handwarmer is like. I'm thinking, mitts?, gloves?, Muff? No, no they are too ordinary. So it's something that would keep warm for quite a while. I don't think it would the old cocoa tin with holes punched in it, and something burning inside (like we made when we were kids) Please put me out of my misery!!!

Last Valentines Day, my hubby presented me with a beautifully wrapped parcel. (Which is unusual in itself as he's quite ham-fisted when it comes to wrapping things up). Inside, what do I get but a hikers handwarmer!!! Very romantic! I think he was fed up with me warming my hands on his back. lol

When I was about 16/17 I received in the post a load of saucy undies. I'd been with my boyfriend since we were 14 and didn't think they were from him as he was always really skint. I had a sneaky suspicion they were from my Mum as a joke, but also very out of character. Anyway I took them back to the shop and got lots of money! Naomi xx

Wendy, Valentine's Day in our house is sometimes the day before hubby rushes out of the house to get the card he forgot to get a few days earlier and can't understand why there are none left!!

Hi Wendy Yes, Valentines day is when mums' go all soppy and buy their beloved hubbys' a compooter tied up in a big red ribbon, and said hubby's are so grateful and happy that they let their wive's try it out first to see how it works. Hubby's usually buy their beloved wives a box of chocs, then eat them themselves!!! And if said compooter comes with a virus attached, then it's all the hubby's fault for wanting one in the first place!!! Yeah!!!

Tell us your Valentine's Day stories!! I had a Valentine card in my teens signed "From One of the Rats" and I STILL don't know who it's from - so if you're out there Valentine - please own up - it still bugs me!! The "Rat", I am sure, was one of about 6 lads I met at school who called themselves the Rat Pack - but I don't know which one (guess I never will now!!). It was a really nice card as well!!!!
