Hello, I used to think my maiden name was fairly uncommon until I began the history trail! :) So step forward anyone researching the Name Dowell and see if two heads are better than one. It seems my lot came over from Ireland - Not sure when yet. I'm back to 1834 born in Prestatyn North Wales. looking to go back further if anyone else has any findings. They were spread out from Bangor to Birkenhead all along the Welsh coast. A warm welcome awaits ;) Sioux

Hi, Yes my maiden name was Dowell, but I have a problem researching my family have you got an hour or two? No well I will try a short version. My dad was Ivor George Dowell he had 2 brothers douglasand Frances(called Chas) His father was Charles dowell mother Annie Frances Dowell Charles had 2 brothers John and George On Charles birth certificate it says Father George Trim a masterBaker mother Annie Frances Trim formerly Dowell. Okay sofar On John and Georges certificate ot says Father George Dowell a master baker mother Annie Dowell formerly Frances. Charles was born in 1890 but on the census 1891 his mother was calling herself Dowell no husband. On 1901 Annie and the boys were together she was a Widow! Unfortunately by the time I decided to research no one was left to help. Odd rumours like she left her husband and reverted to her maiden name of Dowell, to a neighbour registering the birth but it says mother registered on all 3 Upshot is Yes I am a Dowell but not a lot of help unless you know differantly!! love Sandra

Ah Geoff *blush* Ya so sweet ..... but although the grand rellies are welsh I'm English born & bred .... although we did escape back to Wales in the end :) I had seen this site ....many thanks for bringing it to my attention though. I'm actually in contact with the guy who has the only Dowell listed and he's in the USA. Once I've verified my data I'll add it to the site :) Once again thanks Sioux
