Hi Janice, I've just started using Family Tree Maker V.11 It seems to be great! Really enjoying it. Bought it on recommendation from people on GC. You can visit S&N Genealogy supplies website which is where I bought mine from. Naomi

Janice; You can download Legacy (Standard Version) for free (no ads) and use it forever. It is an excellent program. Download at legacyfamilytree(.)com. Jack Hawker

I used to use Pedigree but found it far too complicated. I now use Family Tree Maker which is a piece of cake. It prints out all manner of reports, trees etc and one can insert photos and historical notes. I made the initial mistake though of buying a version with loads of CDs and found them all useless to me as they were USA orientated.

I use Family Historian and find it really easy to put stuff in. There are lots of excellent reports and diagrams, and you can match relatives up if cousins marry etc. And I was able to share my file rally easily with a friend who has a different program too.

There is no cure Janice, welcome to the madhouse. I use Family Tree Maker. Have just upgraded to Version 7. Been with it for 8 years and can't fault it. There are others but for ease of data entry, and for a wide selection of resulting charts etc I don's think you can beat it. Whichever you pick, enjoy. Regards. Keith

Right well I'm fairly new to this, and haven't tried too many different programs, but at the moment I use; The LDS program (which I can't remember the name of !) on my home PC for my main use. MudCreek GENViewer Lite on my work PC as a read only tool (So I can check things but not update, so I don't get out of step). I also use MS Word/OpenOffice (a free MS compatible office suite) to record misc notes. Would be interested on views re: the LDS program. whethere there's anything better out there, specifically something that will print proper trees !
