I have come accross a couple of Salome's along one line of my family and was wondering if anytone else had any or other unusual first names. Naomi

Wow. Just think in a couple of hundred years time when people are researching these. Will they look at those names and think how old fashioned they are? Naomi

I remember at the time a big hoohaa about the sudden number of Kylie's around. It also seems the old names are the most popular now. Alfie's, Jack's and Emma's N

I must admit I wasn't very keen on my name when I was young but now I like it, it is pretty unique. However the amount of people that can't say or spell it drives me mad! It's not hard but people will insist on putting an i in the middle to make it sound like Ni-omi. AAARRGH. Rant over. sorry.

She, I'm not sure about old names making a comeback. My Mum was a Mavis and I'm not sure it would fit well in today's society. Naomi

ah well Naomi - what about the song ' I have heard the mavis singing'? have also found some biblical names way back on my dads side. one branch had about 8 kids - all given good strong bible names and then when they got to the last one they couldnt think by the looks of it so they called him Christian - that was in 1720's fife

At least it was in keeping with the bible.

I've plenty of Enochs, a Tryphena, a Jerusa and a Geruse.

I've got a Philomena, and a Crispin ( or several). And several generations of Sainthills.

Rosi

Rosi Report 9 Feb 2004 23:11

O and the Sainthills seem to have been transcribed or/and recorded as Senthills, Senthells, and even Lentils down the years. Dear old beans !

And another thing! My 'best friend' was a Mavis when I first started work - rather too many years ago. Alas I cannot remember her surname - so i cannot look for her either on FR or on GC. I would like to find her again. Her parents ran a pub in Dover that had a horseshoe shaped bar - so that one drunk could look across at another one and raise a glass to him/her!
