Norah.what you mentioned brought back another memory. You see about ten years ago hubby and I were very involved in the classic car scene. He was the chairman of a car club and I used to run the event side of things. The local members were a very sporting bunch and liked nothing more than to play the fools at many a car show. There is a one day car show in Kent what I used to love as each car club put on themed displays to try to win money for the benifit of the clubs. One year we decided to do a camel train with the cars as the camels.....Yes that right.. camels and the members dressed as arabs sitting round an oasis complete with trees and plants made out of material. This took time to make and organise and we also displayed several large cans of engine oil.We were pleased to have won but just a matter of weeks later the Golf War broke out....... Lynn

Yep, got a funny story here. It would be during the seventies I think, and petrol was rationed as I think the Arab nations were holding out for more money, and garages and car owners alike were not very happy with those Arab nations. Our friends came to pick us up in their car, and guess what? our driver had to stop for petrol, and what was our driver dressed up as? A very authentic Arab, complete with burnoose etc. A story that has been retold endless times at various gatherings. Norah in Hampshire

Hubby and I were invited to a tramps Ball and decided to go whole hog.We spent a day at various jumble sales and came home armed with all manor of things.....things you wouldn't been seen dead in.I washed and tumble dried all the items inc and old overcoat and by the time I had finished things looked as if thay had seen better days. There we stood clad in our glad rags, both wearing wigs, blackened faces and false warts, blacked out teeth, and hubby with the old overcoat done up with a length of tow rope when we thought....we hadn't got any drink to take to the party...WELL I WASN'T GOING to the off licence...SO Hubby had to go dressed in all his finery and the people at the off licence who we know didn't recognize him, only gave him funny looks thinking he was a real tramp right up till when he was served, and then they fell about laughing Anyone else any fancy dress tales..I have another one to tell but let you know later...it was when hubby dressed as a novice nun ........and me as carmen miranda Lynn
