Hello Kathy, it seems like a possibility and well worth checking out.

Katwin Report 21 Feb 2004 14:31

Through my local records office I have just found the birth index of my grandmother's illegitimate son - Frederick Liveracre Brown. The father abandoned them, so do you think Liveracre was his name? No-one in the family seems to know him - only that he was a soldier. Kathy

I am middle nameless! My mum always wanted a girl and to call her Stephanie, (a name she heard when she was about 14). She married my dad and went from being Miss Bird to Mrs Donati. She felt that Stephanie Donati was enough of a mouthful (and spelling nightmare when young), without adding another name! She briefly considered Ann, after my Dad's sister, but That would have made my initials S.A.D. !! Steph ( now Bland! )

Michelle

Michelle Report 20 Feb 2004 23:30

When my Mam was expecting me, my brother insisted that if I had been a boy, he wanted me named after his two best friends, Dicky and Mervyn, I would have changed my name quicker than 42 years later.

Len of the Chilterns Report 20 Feb 2004 23:26

My mother recounts that, when I was but a bump on her front, the bump was referred to as Sonny Jim. The name Jim stuck and therefore was added in as a middle name at registry - the first one being after a close friend of the family. Glad the bump was not designated Little Flo or merely "it"

My middle name is Elizabeth after my mother's sister, also my daughter's middle name. My first name at birth was Michelle, but hated it, (no offence to any other Michelle) then last year after discovering my Dad wanted to name me after his sister who died as a baby, I had Morfydd added as my first name and feel happier being called by this name. My Mam isn't happy though, but my Dad is and that's what counts.

My middle name is Ann after my paternal Grandmother, Jessie Ann. Thank goodness It wasn't after my maternal Grandmother Florrie! My husband's is William after his G Grandad, Great Uncle and Uncle. Before we had our 4 children we decided we would not name them after any family members to save arguments. I wish now that we had really, but we weren't interested in family history then. One of our Grandaughters is named Emma and I have now discovered that my husband's G Grandmother and GG Grandmother were Emma also. Sue

My middle name is Leona, named after my dad Leon. Just last night I was telling my daughter about naming traditions in the past. She was not too thrilled when I told her that if I had followed the pattern, she would have been named Ethel. Ugh.

Bob

Bob Report 20 Feb 2004 02:00

My daughter is Claire Philippa. We were going to call the baby Phillip if it had been a boy and when she was born the midwife said "It's a boy... Oh! sorry it's a girl" so we used Philippa as a middle name.... She hates it. Bob ps My name is the same as my fathers, granfather's and g grandfathers

On the naming of your children I was told by a wise person, can you imagine a person queuing up for their pension with the name you are giving them when a tiny baby. At the time there was a rush on names like Kylie and jason for obvious reasons. Try it it works, if you can't imagine it ,then its probably a name worth avoiding!? KIM

BillinOz

BillinOz Report 19 Feb 2004 23:02

After a lot of thought, I think a child should be allowed to change his/her name legally after the first year of school. Whats in a name you say ?. I was lucky I was Bill Macdonald, but my brother was Ronald. was ok in those days I suppose. But there are so many thoughtless names parents give their children as a burden, and open to ridicule at school and also later. Their names can make or break them in their early years.

My middle name is Paula after my Mum Pauline, she gave me a short name because she got fed up with writing her long name at school. My daughter's middle name is Elizabeth and so far I think I've got at least 50 in my tree , which I wasn't aware of when I named her so It's a bit of nice coincidence really.KIM

I'm named Margaret Grace. Grace after my grandmother, Margaret after her sister who died aged 4 (I wasn't expected to live!). My brothers have the middle names of Nicholas, my fathers real surname, and Edward, the middle name of his stepfather.

Lianne Report 19 Feb 2004 20:09

my middle name is robina - i hated it up until i started researching my family tree. surprisingly i discovered 4 relatives, not including myself, with the same name - who are not related themselves - all coincidence. two married in - one was the mother-in-law of one of them and one was the niece of one of them (thanks to her husbands brother). i was named after the nice so i suppose i don't count - but its strange what you find ain't it my mum never thought it out properly tho, i ended up nicknamed Ribena by anyone who found it out lol lianne xxx
