I have a logitech laser mouse and have been using it for 10 months and it's great. No ball, no mat needed. A little more cash, but worth it. The first one packed up in 1 month. Di.

I would recomend an optical (laser) mouse, no moving parts and they work on just about any surface, incuding my beer belly! I have a cordless keyboard optical mouse combination which I got from Aldi. Staples were selling similar items for £20 a couple of weeks back. The 2 AA batteries last about 2 months. Bob

We have an upside down mouse. Honest... It's by Logitech and the mouse stays still and we roll the big ball on top about. No mat and it doesnt get dirty. We tried it first because my wife has some problems with her hands and she found this arrangement much easier to comtrol. Now I find "ordinary" mice clumsy. Bob

You could also try do abit of housekeeping getting rid of temp files etc, sometimes when the PC harddrive is getting full the PC will go slow hence the mouse seems to go slow. Just a suggestion it might work. Also have you done a scan disk defragment lately that might just make it better aswell. Hope my suggestions work

If you have a plastic mouse mat check that the surface of the mat has not worn smooth: if it has the mouse will skid over it without turning the ball.

As well as the mouse ball/rollers, don't forget your mat - a squirt of "Cream cleanser" will sort that out. Also check that the non-stick feet on the mouse are not covered in crud.

Roberta: Remove the mouse ball and take a look inside the mouse....you'll note three rollers.....you may have to pick the dirt off of these. Laser mouse, which is relatively cheap, has no roller ball and works great. Judy

How long does the average mouse last, does anyone know? Mine is driving me insane, it won't go where I point it. I've cleaned the ball but it doesn't seem to be connecting properly to the very tasteful tiger skin printed mousepad.( We're Tiger supporters in this house, a reference other Aussie Rules afficionados will understand.) There's another suggestion...What sort of mousepad do you have? Anyway, after 2 years, is it time to get a new one? Bobby in Melbourne
