Just a thought has anybody elses relatives stayed close to where you live now? Mine were from everywhere but here I have great grandparents from this area but thats it. It would be great had they all stayed put then could just visit the one family history centre!Its great to read the original records of baptisms and marriages frustraiting when they lived miles away. Mind you my great grandmother was born at the top of my road (my road wasn't there then though) something I didnt know until now. Jan x

janet mine were all from bucks,same town and same village im in today back to 1870. then they disperse lol gloucester,norfolk ,kent,herts and london....so far lol susie

Hi Janet, One branch of my family were in the same village (Holton in Oxford) for almost 300yrs! More recenty, my grandmothers & great grandmothers families all lived in the same street from 1850, when the houses were first built up until 1990, when they were given a major structural overhaul. This is just a few streets away from I still live now, in Herts. DebbIe

Hi Janet I haven't looked too far into Mums side yet but so far they came from places about 10 minutes away. My direct line of Greenleys lived in a village about 40 mins drive from me and the records office for the area is only 10 minutes drive from me. Mind you they did have siblings that settled in America so they weren't all unadventurous. lol On the other hand my Locks (Grandma's side) come from Hertfordshire which is a bit of a long way to travel. My uncle farms in a village where we can trace back 12 generations to about 1550. Once upon a time we owned the pub too. If we all met over a pint they'd view me as a creature from another planet, but uncle Bill would have instant rapport with the latest in fertilizer and cattle breeding.I wonder how they'd compare the present royal family with the escapades of Henry VIII? My Great Great Grandmother's family for 100 years + came from a village I used to live in, unfortunately I didn't know it then so missed a huge opportunity to go to the cemetry and find them..... I will do one day but hey at least now I know why I was drawn there. ;o)

Hi all, my rellies (except one branch) all lived in Portsmouth. This is great as I only live 20 minutes away. Are they proving easy to trace? NO! There are lots of places to do lookups but the main records office is in Winchester which isn`t easy as I don`t drive, and need to get back for the school run. Also, I thought I`d have a wander round the church yard where most of the family events took place. Not as informative as I thought, someone removed all the headstones! Anyway, I just needed to get that off my chest, thanks for listening. Rebecca :-)

My mum's side seems to have stayed mainly within a pretty small radious of half a dozen villages in the Bucks/Northants border, am back to about 1730 so far and apart from a few that went off to Utah in the 1860's they've mainly stayed put. Dad's side is a little different. Migrated from Cardington in Beds to Gawcott in Bucks (around 30 miles ?) in around 1815, stayed put there till around 1900. My Grandfather married a Surrey girl and then moved to (what is now) Milton Keynes... haven't got very far with the Surrey side yet though !
