Brickwall slowly crumbling

When I started researching I was told our ancestor was "Guillaume (William) Vaux de Mon(t)fort" and he fled France, lived in England long enough to anglicize his last name then IMMEDIATELY left for Canada. A few years later I found out that a Vaus MARRIED a Mumford and yes there was a William Vaus, however his family lived in England at least 100 years. That William Mumford that I was looking for? Spent 20 years (off and on) looking for him only to find out his name was actually James Mumford (and it looks like they were in England at least 100 years as well). Unless the ancestor himself tells me the story, I no longer believe what I hear. I'm glad to hear your wall is crumbling. Isn't it a great feeling? I wish you luck.

One of my brickwalls has startedto crumble. A cousin and I (only been in contact a few weeks) have been trying to puzzle gg grandparents marriage. My grandma had said that gggrandmas name was'''''' It now seems that is totally wrong. Between us we have found birth certs/parish records of their children that lead to another lady with same christian name different surname. A marriage cert with these names on. What also did not help, gg granddads name changed during the generations from Sowman - Salmon. Suppose with dialects etc easy to happen. Cousin is going to pro hopefully this week, to dig further. Suppose we cannot take all we are told as gospel. But - 2 branches of family had/have wrong information given. Family skeleton possibly?? Liz
