Nina, apologies for not answering you sooner. I emailed GC on Tuesday (I think) and they replied on Wednesday evening, with this - Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This problem has now been resolved and will work correctly if you would like to try again. Please let me know if you require further assistance. I haven't had any new contacts to test it out yet. M.

A few comments; a) they could have teh decency to reply to my message on the subject, send over a week ago. b) email systems as a rule are very resilient and should store all pending requests in a queue, which would then sent when the server is back up. c) Why is it taking them so long to acknowledge a problem ? Perhaps if they listened to their members rather than work on "changing things to look like F.R." etc then =it might get resolved. Thats got that off my chest lol

I agree Lynda. It is a step forward though - at least we have got them to admit that there is a problem. But I'm sure there are still going to be times when their email server is down. Maybe if somehow before sending a message they can check whether their server is working - and if not - state service is temporarily suspended.

Morfydd When did GC tell you they have resolved the problem? This was the email I received from them on 16th of this month, and as far as I am aware they have not altered the the way emails are sent yet. *************************************************** Thanks for your email. I am sorry to hear that you have had trouble receiving emails. I have spoken to our technical team and one possible explanation is that the emails were sent at a time when our mail server was down, and as a result you did not receive the email in your inbox. One of our future plans for the site is to have all emails sent and received via the site. This would mean that members would no longer have any problems with emails sent astray. We will announce further details about this feature nearer the time. I hope this helps. ***************************************************

Hi I have tried emailing several people about their trees lately and haven't had a response, I check my contacts every day and my email every day, But, last year I had the problem that every time I sent an email to someone they thought I was ignoring them as they kept bouncing back, it turned out to be my server. But I do agree its very frustrating when you are waiting for a response. Sue

I have been having a problem lately, with contact emails not reaching me, the only way I knew they where there was when I looked in 'my contacts'. I personally didn't do this very often, because I was under the impression people's emails would be sent to me, so this could be why people don't reply. I have contacted GC and they say they have resolved my problem, we shall see. M.

Hi Margaret, I agree to the explanations on here,I like receiving emails, especially if they contain info from someone helping you in your research,I always email back, perhaps the next day,if I have been to work, etc, what does annoy me,is when I send a short message its ok,then when I almost write a novel,it fails to be delivered for some reason or other, and all that work has gone to waste. Not just on GC but family emails as well. But then on the other hand, people just dont reply. Just another explanation perhaps. regards trish

I've been trying to contact someone who has lots of Sales in Sussex his name is SIMON TODD (anyone know this cove?) My mails keep getting bounced back as undeliverable. I asked GC if they could snail mail him, they said they could'nt, they could only contact members by e.mail, odd considering they ask for a snail mail address on registration.. - poor blokes probably sitting at home wondering why no-ones made contact with him - the answer is that he's either changed his e.mail addy or given the wrong one. Hi, I have sent several emails to people through Gc lately as they have the same people in their tree as me. Heard nought, then had a brainwave today, wot if those people left their details before Gc changed the rules and now they cant email back as they are non members? IS THIS THE WAY IT WORKS? As a member I can email people but if they are non members can they email me back through Gc? So today I emailed them again including my full private email address to see if I get a reply that way...or have I got all this wrong? Debbi

Hello, Sorry to hear about people not getting back to you. since I have been on this site I have not found this at all. Infact people have been very nice and even helped me. But I know how you feel as I had this problem on the school list of people I went to school with. Like you I dont know why they bother to put their names on it. Cheer up bye now June.

Chill Margaret! There are numerous threads on this very subject. I think the upshot of it is that some people experience problems with their emails but it is very annoying i agree. For example, I contacted someone on the trying to find board the other night to try to help them with their query. They didn't respond but not only that I went into my contacts Ifound they had removed me from their list of contacts without so much as a thank you very much for trying or kiss my bum! I was affronted as it makes you feel whats the point of trying to help others. But on the other side of the coin, I have had so much help from people on this site and am extremely greatful for it, I think its worth trying to help others because most of them are very thankful of it. Why not contact them again and if stillno response strike them from your contacts and make a note of it. Pam

HI, I was wondering why some people on this site even bothered to join it. They leave the name etc to be sent an email for you to enquire about it and when you do they don't even have the decency to reply even just a YES or NO to your question, they ignore it completely. Are there other members who have experienced this happening!!. Not impressed--Jo Canepa.
