Click on (highlight) the cell (or line/column, etc.) you want to enter the time into. Click on Format/Cells. Number should come up as the first page. Click on Time. Choose how you want it diplayed from the Type menu on the right. Click OK. Then enter your time in the cell with colon separators.

You have to format the cell as "time". Excell "sees" it aas a number which can be used in calculations. The decimal number returned by TIME is a value ranging from 0 (zero) to 0.99999999, representing the times from 0:00:00 (12:00:00 AM) to 23:59:59 (11:59:59 P.M.). To view the time as a decimal number, select the cell and click Cells on the Format menu. Click the Number tab, and then click General or Number in the Category box. You have to enter time with a colon between the hours:mins:secs Hope this helps Bob

I know, nowt to do with genealogy but you are all so helpful I thought I would ask. I have been trying to add hours and minutes in EXCEL but to no avail. I can't even put the time (eg 16.42) in the right format. I have tried using the relevany format (hh:mm) but it keeps reading the figs as a date and showing a spurious time!!! Very STRANGE. Anyone know acure for this malady? Gerry
