You can get certificates from some local Register offices, there is a list on Genuki. They usually send them out quite quickly too. Its probably a good idea to ring them though as I understand that some offices are too busy to do it for family history purposes. Heather

If you find the name of your person and the right year etc the Vol and page number is on the right hand side next to it. That is what you need for ordering the certificate. Then go to col.statistics.gov.uk to order it on line.

If you Know your Dad's date of birth, how do you go about getting a copy of his birth certificate? Can you get this from the local registrar and if so how?

Hi Jeanette, If you know your Dad's birthdate you should be able to get his birth certificate which will give his dad's name and his mum's maiden name. Then you look for their marriage. Heather

Without wishing to sound stupid, I haven't a clue how to get started on searching for relatives. I only found out the names of my paternal grandparents last year, and I have no idea of my paternal grandmothers birth surname, or the date or place of their marriage. I know my fathers date of birth, and that they lived in the Pembroke Dock area of South Wales. How do I find out more details? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
