Sue Hare recommended a site on "Tips Board: Try this site..........." http://www.justgen(.)com/ The site is a list of links, sorted into various categories (countries, ethnic groups, software, books, misc., etc) and with links to chatrooms ! There is also a jewish section.

Original Added by Lorraine Mack on 10/05/2004 15:04:26 "If you have Eastern European Jewish rellies buy today's Guardian There's an interesting article in the G2 section of the Guardian newspaper today (10th May) about the 150,000 Jews who arrived in Britain between 1881 and 1914. Well worth a look if you have any rellies who came from there around that period. If you miss today's edition you might be able to find it on the Guardian website. " I found them on the Guardian-Website, but I don't know if the references stay constant. Best thing would be to download them and store as a file on your computer: http://www.guardian(.)co.uk/g2/story/0,3604,1212971,00.html and http://books.guardian(.)co.uk/extracts/story/0,6761,1213040,00.html etc., etc (Keep clicking on "More extracts from Bloody Foreigners 10.05.2004: Alien nation")

Hi Sandra, Just been reading the eclipse/susser site article on the Jones Dental Dynasty. I found the idea of ".. Abraham ben Isaiah, otherwise known as Moses Abraham Groomsfelt, or Jones, a silversmith .." changing his name to JONES amusing !! I could understand GREENFIELD or something similar, but Jones --- the mind boggles. There has to be a story there ! My G-Grandfather purportedly changed his name from KALLNUNG to COLEMAN when he came to England, and all of us with "foreign" ancestors have to think twice about our names, what they might have been originally, how they may have been anglicized, etc, but Jones (without the reasons) does seem extreme.

Thanks for all the feedback and contributions. Trying to find my GG-Grandfather (MARGULIES) I came across the following two sites, both with lots of names ... Brody, Ukraine, Cemetery Records: http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/Brody/brody_cemetery_database.htm Krakau / Krakow, Poland: http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/Krakow/ This site gives masses of information about the jews in Krakau, including many who moved to Antwerp ! Go to Site-Menu here to find out what's available ! Also on this site, a bit of fun, a relative calculator (3rd. Cousin twice removed, etc): http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/krakow/relations.asp My G-Grandfather Moritz Margulies was born in Krakau, his father Elyakim Getzel Margolis died in Brody. Although I havn't found their records, I have found a few "may be relatives". Anybody else have any MARGULIES, MARGOLIS, MARGOLIOTH connections ??

These are copied from "German searches": http://members : A list of links to Jewish, Polish, German and general Gen. sites. I don't know where I found it, some of the links look good, others are "broken" ... If you have any jewish relatives, www(.)jewishgen.org is the place to go ! There are all sorts of genealogical projects and associated web-pages here, including online records. I've been putting these websites on the "German searches" thread, but it seems there are several GC members researching jewish ancestry, so I thought I'd start a new thread ...
