Can anyone give me any help as I am new to tracing my family history. My father was adopted as a child, no date, I have no idea of his mother or father's name. All I do know is that he was born in Manchester (Ardwick I think) & his mother was killed in an accident. He was born 26th May 1921 & his adopted name was Eric Howard Dillon, worked as a butcher in Ardwck before going in the army. I have no birth certificate or adoption cert, no family members alive. Any help would be appreciated. Margaret Best

if you know which of the armed forces he was in ,apply for his service records ,which will give you date of birth ,place, date of marriage ,wifes age on marriage where marriage took place and quite a bit of other info . After that you have your basic info to work on .Good luck Denis tfn Newcastle.
