Ruth, One of the rhymes I used to sing with two balls was 'Mrs Brown'. Started off 'Plainsy Mrs Brown' then went on to 'Overs', Upsies' etc. With one ball we played 'donkey'. Does anyone remeber inthe 60's those hard litle balls on stiff rope with a hoop on one end. You put the hoop around your ankle, swung it and jumped over the ball. If you lost your momentum the ball hit your ankle and nearly broke it! I've seen a modern version, the ball at the end is soft!!!

I played French Skipping up 'til a couple of years ago with my chilminding kids, but if they wouldn't play with me, should have seen the look on the parents faces when they turned up and saw my 2 dining room chairs locked in elastic bands! I think the best game my mum taught me was making pretty necklaces in the quickest time, took me 2 years before I realised it was her 'home' work and she was getting paid! Kim I used to play that too but cannot for the life of me think what the rhyme was. I remember French Skipping (or Elastics) and playing 2 balls up against the wall, it was great around nan's 'cause she had an alley between hers and the neighbours house! Sue

I am really glad someone bought this subject up. Please can someone remind me of a game we use to play and the order in which it was played. Tennis ball inside a stocking (remember my mum going mad 'cause we used all hers over one weekend!) you had to stand against wall and 'whack' it with the ball in stocking either side and over head, allsorts, I am sure there was a song too.
